    Cockatiel Tunes

I have visited YouTube and seen a number of cockatiels whistling the Addams Family and the Andy Griffith theme songs. What is the best way to teach a cockatiel to sing? Is there a CD of tiel tunes that I can just play for him?

We will watch Andy Griffith in the morning and soon as the whistling starts Sammy will fly to my shoulder and we whistle it together with girls chirping. I just keep backing up the show on my dvr and we sit and whistle for about 20 minutes.

I believe the best way to teach them is through doing it yourself, especially if they are closely bonded with you. They will be more willing to learn it. My little boy almost has it totally down. Now he's learning Harry Potter, Camptown Races, Whistling a song from Shrek, bird calls and lots of stuff.

    Re: Cockatiel Tunes

I have been teaching my babies the Adams family song too...lol (seen it on you tube) I have had luck with teaching my tiels in the past to talk and sing...I hear it depends on the bird too but anyway I have just either said or whistled whatever it was I wanted them to learn at that time over and over for about 20-30 minutes strait(talk about sore cheeks) sometimes I do it more but, I try to at least do it twice a day, everyday. I think that doing it yourself is best but it takes time..I am trying a new method too I have a sound recorder on my PC and I whistled the tunes and saved them to my PC and just keep replaying it, this has been going well(only 2days) the birds are responding to it and the younger one keeps trying to mimic it. I just need to figure out how to put it on repeat...so I can leave it on for the 2-3hrs I am gone in the morning and afternoon at work...good luck we will all have to share some video once we get them doing it.
    Good Luck, Bonnie
