    Brain Damaged budgi?

No Joke, I think my budgie is a little slow. When he's on top of his cage he tries to get back in by trying to jam his head btw the bars. He also flies into walls (obvious no window) He also tries to fly into my face (this freaks me out, I duck and get startled). He has started to perch on this wooden dowel, but sometimes he just "walks off" and falls/flies around and around and bangs into a wall. Is this normal?

Sounds to me like he is a new/young bird ?

When i got olly he was crap at flying he flew in to walls, and just stopped in mid-air because he wasnt used to the HUGE room but now he has mastered flying.

If he trys to get in the cage by the bars, then perhaps you the gap is too big ?

Flying to your head is because he loves you !!!! but it may hurt if he lands on your nose (my lovie did this ouch)

My Zazu used to be scared to me so when i held out a erch she walked away and sometimes fell off.
If your's isnt scared of you then this is a sign of illness

If you are concerned the take him to vet ASAP

To me he sounds normal the only worrying thing is the falling of perch

Yep adeys right, sounds like a young bird. Do you know how old the bird is? His flying into things is just inexperience, he doesn't have enough control. My 2 year old cockatiel is a complete clutz because he had never been outside his cage when I got him. He's clipped but he flutters and jumps into anything in front of him. I've seen him fall off his perch too but he is no way brain damaged. He' smart and learns things very easily. I wouldn't worry about clumbsy. Just offer him more time and opportunities for gaining experience.

I am laughing at the bit about trying to get back in by jamming the head into the bars. I hope that it's a sign of a young bird and not one who is ill, otherwise, I apologize for my laughter. Youthful exuberance is funny though.

    Brain Damaged budgi?

    Hi everyone,
I guess I'm just a nervous bird owner. Donald is aprox 7 months old. Is that considered young?. I think it's funny that he tries to jam his head in the bars too- he also freaks out when his feet touch the bars he kinda lifts them up and shoves his head down. Luckily the bars are tightly spaced and only his beak gets thru. I have always let him out about an hour a day. He just started flying off the top of his cage. His wings have fully grown in and I guess he's " learnin to fly ". I appreciate all the responses and support. Thanks

anouther thought of the head bashing on cage, if he just had a good meal or feels his beak is dirty he might be rubbing his beak to get rid of food which is perfectly normal

My budgie rubs his beak on the perch! There was some poop once and it rubbed onto his beak!
