Question Well Water - Is it dangerous to wash her food in it?

We live WAY out in the boonies. We have well water in our house. We buy bottled water for drinking usually distilled (and for Milla's baths - all two of them [that is another story]).

When preparing Milla's food, I wash it in our well water. I then dry it as completely as I can before giving it to her. Is that safe enough?

Is there anything I can do to make it safer?

    Thank you,
    ~Beth

What you could do is buy one of those water purifiers like PUR or something that attaches to your facet so it takes anything icky out of there. I don't have any experience with well water and birds so I couldn't give you any more than that!

You should be fine unless you live close to something that could be contaminating the water table (like an old gas station, chemical plant, etc.) If you're overly concerned you could have your water tested, but if its just regular hard well water there's no danger. I'd be more worried about pesticides and fertilizers used on the produce (unless you're getting organic stuff.)

    Re: Well Water -

    Hi Rebecca,

We had a filtering system, but it froze last winter and cracked. LOL. We don't drink the water or use it to cook, but we do use it to rinse food off.

    Thanks!

    Hi SkaAddit,

    Thanks!

Nothing above us on the hill, the water just smells like sulfer. Milla only drinks bottled water.

    Smiles!

Question Would Apple Cider Vinegar help?

Would spraying the vegies with a mix of Apple Cider Vinegar and then rinsing in well water be enough to get off the bad residues on the veggies?

    Thanks for any help,
    ~Beth

Is the water tested by the county or some other government agency periodically? If so, I would think it would be fine. They wouldn't allow unsafe water in your home. It might not smell or taste the best so you might not want to drink it but it is probably safe.
