    Re: beak bruise

do you have a picture of your birdie?

it could be a bruise, but it could be a beak marking

    Re: beak bruise

    Hi,

My luntino tiel Trippy had a mark on his beak. I thought at first it was something on his beak (it was sort of a reddish color). After a few days, I finally tried to brush it off while we were in the shower, but it was in the beak and not on it. It wasn't causing him any distress or anything, so I left it alone. Now his beak has grown (they constantly grow) and it is at the tip of his beak. Soon it will be gone.

I just wanted to share my experience with you.

    Re: beak bruise

Hmm, both mine have "bruises" like that -- a tiny reddish-brown spot on the beak. And it grows out with the beak.

I can also trace it back to two flight-fright incidents where they accidently flew into the wall at low speed. It happens so quickly, and sometimes they are quite skittish. And they are clipped... so I suppose those things just happen. At least they were'nt flying high or fast.

Don't worry about the bruise. If it's a heavy accident, then they should go to the vet, of course, but now... it's just a bruise growing out.

Bailee's hit the window one too many times and has a little reddish bruise on his beak. If it's not upsetting them then i wouldn't worry too much.

    Re: beak bruise

Birdies can bruise their beaks. Just like we can bruise our fingernails. In fact, beaks are comprised of the same substance (pretty much) as our fingernails, only much harder. So, just like our fingernails, bruises grow out. You'll notice that it moves down toward the tip as your bird gets older, and finally disappears.

Just pay attention to your bird's eating habits. Its still an injury, and if she shows discomfort eating, perhaps give her some softer food for a day or two because she's sore. Make sure she's not vomiting, sleeping excessively or showing other signs of concussion or head injury. If you see this, please get her to the vet immediately.
