    Does your Conure sneeze?

Cheeky and budgie seem to be sneezing a lot recently...

Is this normal for this time of year? I'm relatively new to taking care of birds but I've noticed this.

Is this something normal or should I take them to a vet? Do you guys have any remedies or herb information I can feed them?

There has been no discharge and their eating habits have not been affected.

Is a cold common for birds?

    Re: Does your Conure sneeze?

Sometimes they sneeze often due to small stray feathers in their noses. I would keep a close eye on them for the next couple of days. If they start to have discharge I would take them to the vet immedately.
Birds can get a cold. Have you been sick lately? If so they may have got it from you. Make sure you are washing your hands regularly when handling your birds.

I get a seasonal cold every winter.

Are there are herbs I can give them to help them cope with a cold?

O'Malley seems to sneeze every once in a while. Normally when he is scratching his face. I'll often say "bless you" when he does wondering if he will pick it up and say it to other people.

I agree with Kimberly in the fact that you should watch them closely, but if it lasts for a while(even without discharge), it would probably be best to at least call the vet's office to get a professional opinion.

Jasper and Tango both sneeze occasionally (and always tons after bath-time!), but if it's regularly-occurring, go with your gut and take them to the vet!

Good luck, hope your birdie-babies are feeling better soon!

Birds sneeze...actually Alliee sneezes after I giver her a kiss. It's her mimick of a kissy sound.
Birds can actually force a sneeze out by sticking a nail into their nostril. You might be able to catch them doing so. I have seen my two force sneezes out plenty of times. Unless you see a discharge, I wouldn't worry about it.

Emily... Is THAT what they're doing? I've seen Tango do that plenty of times, and I always tell her it's not polite to pick her nose!

    Re: Does your Conure sneeze?

He isn't a conure, but my Timneh, Rossface, sneezes all the time. He, too, picks his nose just before his sneezes. (But he is still one sexy dude )

Ross has seasonal allergies, and they are the most troublesome in the early spring and in the early fall. So, that's something other than an ailment that you can consider as a possible cause.
