Hahns Macaw MORE!!
well, besides the catchy title.... I have found a breeder in South Lincolnshire (his name is Dave). I found him on parrot link (thankyou linda for reminding me ) and he breads black headed caiques for £350 and Hahns Macaws for £300; So i phoned him up and he told me the hahns macaw would not be ready for another 2 weeks because he has not been fully weaned. Now could this be a sign of future problems? If so then I won't get the bird from him, maybe even John in WEST WALES, 5 hour drive!!
So, the plan is that some time this week I visit the home and check it out, see the bird as well and ofcourse I will 'examine' him, not that I'm a vet, but I know a few signs of good health and If i like the place (AND THE BIRD) then whenever hes ready I'l be bringing him home
However, im going to be quite busy I'm going to get the cage from BBB (i already know which one) ill get all my other stuff from the local pet store (VERY CONVIENIENT!!) and maybe some more stuff like a playgym from BBB (2 hours away). It seems llike everything to do with birds is REALY far away from me lol
But probably more importantly that bird is going to the Vet straight away. So, thats my plan schedules have been sorted out by Erica and myself, and over holidays my Uncle and BBB will take care of the bird, and for the great majority of the year I'll be in the UK with my Hahns macaw (the name is COMING)
On the subject of names, I have VERY MANY different to chose from:
If it is a boy:
Martin
Captain
Dookie
Orlando
Chahnler (cant spell it for my life)
If it is a girl:
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SO EVER, period.
I just have to pray it is a boy, becuase i realy dont wana go through what I did with Flannigan, when she had Eggs, she just turned into a beast for 2 years, but now shes my cuddle baby, but she still gets territorial about boxes; but what can I say I cant fight with nature? (or can i? mwuhah)
So thats the big PLAN. It seems so fast now, although it has been quite a long time, half a year almost, but Im happy, I have finaly fully prepared myself for the hahns macaw to enter my life =
thats my celebration

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
Congrats Edd!!! (My Hahns is coming on Wednesday!)
Hope it all works out fine this time. It's good the breeder wants him to be fully weaned before coming to you, so don't worry about that. They all take their own time to wean.
As for names.......I haven't got a clue I have been though every name possible with Wookie but have always come back to Wookie. The most recent one on my mind has been Pipa, if you like it at least you can have one on the girl list

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
thanks very much linda, and Congratulations to you too! Pipa wont work though, becuase theres this strangely tall girl in my school who actualy does look like a drug adict, strange but true; just imagaine a tall and thin Vicky Polliard Every time i hear that name it just takes me back to her; but imagine the bird saying it all day, TORTURE lol. I like Dookie, it could be a boy or a girl, i also realy like Chanler, I'm addicted to Friends and then theres Martin and Orlando, but i think probably Chanler or Dookie will be the bird's name lol.
Thanks, Ed

Ah, so Chandler was the name you were thinking of. Chahnler would sound interesting, though. Sounds kinda almost French. :P

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
thanks very much everyone for your support! sorry I forgot to ask him, the whole trauma with the psittacosis totally wiped my mind, ill get my dad to ask him; hopefully I'll find a way!
Im so excited, I'm going to visit the guy tomorrow morning (3 hour drive!) I'm going to bring my video camera, which conveniently can also take photos. This is probably going to be the longest night in my life, unless i fall asleep, (time in UK is 7:48pm)
Just now my mom and I were looking for more different cages, we really like the Montana Adelaide cage which I really like, however I have found on other sites, the same cage but with extras; gym top, toy hanger, storage area; and it's for CHEAPER!!
but, they're all out of stock, and they're all going to take 6 weeks until they get more shipped, suspectably they all get that cage from the same stock provider. I have however found a bigger cage, the Montana Berlin; basically im finding the largest cage possible that's not stupidly big :S.
So that cage is out, If im going to be getting the bird in an odd 1 and a half weeks then I'll need the cage before the bird lol.
What cages, for similar sized birds to you guys have or recommend?

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
From those two i would choose the Berlin, because it is wider, has the storage underneath and the scaloped top is kinda pretty. Although I would never use the roof door, i would be scare of it all the time. However the portal door is neat, and would be a nice hangout point.
These are the cages i fell in love with.
http://www.birdscomfort.com/giant_bird_cages.html Nice single cage.
http://www.birdscomfort.com/double_bird_cages.html This is the double version of the one above. I love this cage, if i got a Hahns i would probably get this cage (I asked them and yes you can get custom bar spacing )
http://www.birdscomfort.com/cage_grande_playtop.html this one i like because of the playgym on top. And its a easier to manage cage size.
So exciting. cant wait to see pictures

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
I say 'pheobe' for a girl! Starts with a 'P' and it's off friends! And I like Finnagon for a boy, but out of your list I think Orlando would suit a Hahns perfectly! You must be so exited, as you are probably meeting him right now!

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
I am bloody knackered.. 10 hour drive.. just got back.. TEN HOURS!!!! my eyes are failing me; but Im so happy!!!
Ok, i visited, they own a pet shop in Boston; they have licaline amazons, a coupld CAGS; handful of budgies, cockatiels and finches; black headed caiques and one HAHNS MACAW!!!! hes SOOO cute and very lively; you can see trouble spelt out on his/her face!! as for names, chanler is on that list for sure
however, he told me the hahns was 17 weeks and it would take him 2 weeks or less to be fully weaned, is that really bad? isnt he quite old?
Well i did my little 'checkup' his feathers on the back are in good condition but the front feathers were realy scraggy, but i think that was only because of the food spilled down his front; (he had a bath, it was hysterrical; but i couldnt video it because my camera would have gotten soaked ) His eyes were nice and clear, good colour; i know hes not a fake (a blue crowned conure with a bare face patch, i was told to watch out for that). feet were shaped right and certainly gripped round my fingers; nails were not too long; the bird was ringed and i will get a hatch certificate yay . The tail was scraggy, but the cage he was in was big enough so it wouldnt be that, i think it was the food again; very sticky im sure (i had an 'incedence' with baby food being spat at me by my cousins son lol :laugh)
So heres what you've all been waiting for the PICCIES!!!

dont worry hes not made of neon, just my terrible flash lol

very saphisticated !!! :laugh

little close up

you can tell on his face he wants out

beware of wild animal. has to be restraint! very excited with all the attention!

Grrr!!!!!
So thats him, i hope you like him, i do!

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
sure is a cute little guy!
He looks young, another couple weeks would do him well, so he will be completely weened. And it gives you a chance to get setup for him.
man i love hahns, all these hahns threads could be trouble for me!

Re: Hahns Macaw MORE!!
thanks very much criss, you relieved me i thought he may be quite unhealthy; the average weaning for hahns i was told was 13-15 weeks so if this guys done in 19 it shouldnt be trajic.
