Re: Pictures of my baby
Pootspete thank you.I see you are a moderator so may I get your opinion or anyone actually as I am still so new at this. Also I love the avtar and my deepest condolences on Petey & Mama
I was told Cazi has more bars then an average budgie and that his ripple effect on his chest and shoulder area is also part of the too many bands effect.
(as seen best in the first picture)
Do you think so and is this bad?
I was also wondering if you think he is a rainbow as that is what I was told?
Lastly (sorry for the ramble) does Cazi look boy or girl?

Re: Pictures of my baby
Still a very young bird, so it's hard to tell the gender - I can't say.
He does have a lot of ripples - I wouldn't think that would be a bad thing - it's just how he's(?) colored. (Yeah, I'm calling him he just because I gotta call him something...) He does have more ripples than normal, though. The ones on his forehead closer to his beak, though, will go away when he grows up.
I'm not sure what a rainbow is, as I don't know much about specific types of budgies, but I did notice he had that nice effect where his yellow feathers turn to green, and then turn to blue. That's a very pretty bird.

Re: Pictures of my baby
Cazi looks like a rainbow budgie to me. As for the 'ripples' those are called bars, and as s/he gets older and molts, they will go away a bit, and his/her forehead will be more of a solid yellow, with the bars ending somewhere on the back of the head. He/she only has that many because he/she is very young. Very cute!

Re: Pictures of my baby
Yes the bars that are closer to the beak will disappear after his first molt begins. When this does happen these as I call "baby feathers" will go and new ones grow in which in your case will be solid yellow. The bars on the back of your bird are normal... all budgies have bars on their backs just how much depends how old and what type of budgie. Here is some pictures of my newest budgie sabastien and how the bars were on his head until he molted.
Sabby when I first got him (notice bars down to beak)

Sabby now, the white will show more after a few more molts and age.

Very cool Joey yup it is looking like a hen. They said (a few breeders I contacted plus a rainbow breeder) that it is a Yellow face type 2 but due to a (something wing gene?) The yellowing 2 did not affect the entire bird. They say she should have had seafoam(?) throughout but since it did not carry through she must have the above wing gene making her a Rainbow which genetically it is the yellow face type 2 or yellow headed blue that start the rainbow lineage to get that color.
