    Night Frights?

In the middle of the night my more timid budgie, Kiwi, will start flapping and spazzing blindly around her cage.
It's not every night. It's only happened twice since I moved her upstairs to my room. I'm guessing it's because of the change, but I don't know if she did it when she was downstairs. Now that she's in my room I could just hear it easier?
Sky, my other budgie, just looks at her like "What's your problem?". I always try to talk calmly to her when this happens but she doesn't seem to care. She just continues to flap and fly around her cage. Then I turn the light on to check on her and then she sometimes calms down.

I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to help keep her from getting scared.
It's all worth it in the end.

    Re: Night Frights?

Some birds just have night frights. From your post it sounds like the cage isn't covered. When you are moving around in the room when they are trying to sleep it can frighten them sometimes. If you cover the cage with a simple sheet or blanket it will help her feel safer. When birds do have night frights they cannot see and can sometimes seriously injure themselves. It is suggested that you put a night light near her cage so that she can see better when it happens. She will be less likely to harm herself if she can see where she is flapping.
When this does happen. I would cut the light on immediately. I would take her out of the cage to get her to calm down. It usually take a little while.
    Hopes this helps!

In my bird room I keep a night light on. As to avoid night frights. None of my birds have had any to my knowledge I just do it as a preventive thing. It is just one of those small plug into the outlet ones.

I agree. Maybe try having a small night light near the cage so she can see better.
