Safe glue to when building a play gym??!??

Hi, I'm planning to build my budgie a really great big play gym with heaps of toys and activities etc. I'm making it using icy pole sticks and that kind of thing (all non-treated wood), but i need a glue that is going to be safe incase he chews it up (like he probably will). I was thinking that for this I could use papier-mache glue.... you know that one they gave us in primary school made of just flour and water. So i know it should be fine, just thought i would double check. Also, i want to colour some of the wood, normall food dye should be ok for this wouldnt it?

    Thanks!

I think that water and flour would be fine. It may become brittle over time, though, which would cause it to stop being gluey. I would make sure that all the parts are designed so that they fit together tightly so that if some of the parts lose their flour/water glue over time, they will still hold together. And check the integrity of the piece often.

But really - I wouldn't trust any other glue, so that's what I'd use if I were you. I don't know about dyes. I would say - better safe than sorry. They're not really necessary, so it may be best to avoid dyes.

I don't know about food dyes either... toys in the stores are usually dyed with vegetable dyes . I'd just leave it plain and not risk it .
