    Cool I've been thinking...

...That I want a conure! First off would they accidentaly hurt my lovebird if i let them play? And also, what are some neccecities they have that's different than a lovebird? Thanks!

    Re: I've been thinking...

Oh wow....theres a big difference! You might actually have an issue with your lovie harassing your conure. Mine is the most dominant one in my entire flock!

Okay...I have to say it cause I'm just obsessed but...I LOVE Blue Crown Conures! They are quieter than Suns and Jendays, very cuddly, best Conure talkers, and have funny personalities. They are much less nippy than GCCs and other pyhurra conures too. Depending on the type of conure you get, you will have to deal with a lot more noise.

You are gonna need a big cage with LOTS of things for them to do. I would get a book and do a lot of research online.

And I just have to speak for Poi's...have you considered them at all? Like, Meyers, Red-Bellied, Senegals, etc? They are less known than Conures I believe but just as enjoyable! They are really playful (my Sennie loves to wrestle with pens and straws and LOVES to cuddle and lay on his back), they say a few things (more than most conures), in general aren't anywhere near as loud, and so pretty! Definitely give them a check-out.

    Re: I've been thinking...

I have a lovie, Tini, and a conure, Cosmo. I had my lovie (OF) first and then added my conure (black-capped). After the quaratine was over and all, I introduced them. I was nervous because Tini doesn't get along with cockatiels. However, she was really good - she mostly ignored Cosmo and went about her business. Cosmo however was a completely different story...HE reared up and attacked Tini! Now the war is on and they fight any chance possible. They have separate out of cage times, which is hard, but workable, but they will fight through the cage bars if one of them gets to the other's cage. This is of course just my personal experience, but I think lovies get the bad rap - Cosmo completely started this whole thing with Tini. Cosmo is also the bird that is hard to read - he pierced my sister's nose because he was feeling protective of my brother (at least we think so). But there are some that will tolerate each other and may even get along under supervised conditions - there's just no guarantee. So are you willing to do separate out of cage times and do you have that time to commit?

so when you quarantine it's pretty much keeping the birds in seperate rooms to make sure they dont share illnesses right?

    Re: I've been thinking...

Well yes...but also, when you go between birds you need to wash your hands and you may also want to change your clothes as well. The way I handled it was to keep Cosmo in our spare bedroom and I would take him out in the morning into our bedroom and spend time with him. In the afternoon/early evening (after work) it was Tini time and I had her in the living room where her cage has always been. I kept the door to the spare bedroom closed with the radio playing for Cosmo. Later in the evening, after putting Tini to bed, I would spend some more time with Cosmo in the spare bedroom while on the computer or just hanging out for a little while then I'd put him to bed. The 30 days went very quickly actually. You'll also want to bring your new bird to the vet right away for a new bird well exam to make sure that they are a-okay and establish a base line.

    Re: I've been thinking...

Derick, I would suggest going to a breeder rather than a pet store. You get more information about the bird and plus you can to be involved (sometimes) in the baby's early days (before weaing). I know a great breeder in SD. let me know if you want her info.

She breeds Blue Crown Conures, Brown Headed Parrots (in the same family as Senegals, Meyer's and Red-Bellieds), Quakers, and others. She has Brown Headed Parrots for $200 right now.

LOL she has such a cute web site name!
I love my green cheek conures but i cant have them out with the other birds as they are a breeding pair (well ment to be) they can be rather nasty to the others, Storm nearly lost a toe to the female biting him!

    Re: I've been thinking...

Just another opinion---for what it's worth. I had a blue crown conure 25 years ago and I loved him to pieces. However, he was the loudest bird I have ever experienced. I have a sun conure now and he is nowhere near as loud as my blue crown was.

Having experienced both species of birds in my home, I would suggest you get familiar with the noise of whatever conure you are going to bring into your family. Know the whole package before you make a decision.

    Re: I've been thinking...

I contacted her and she said she was busy and would either get me some pics yesterday or today. They are probably not coming today beings it's almost 8. I'm starting to get frustrated but I should realize that people do get busy at times. If I ever do get any pics I will show you.

    Re: I've been thinking...

How I would love to get a blue crowned conure. I think my two suns are enough for now...esp. since I might be getting a rescue sun in the summer time possibly. I also don't have my birds till April, since I live in San Antonio (for school) and they are in Austin with my mom. But in April I move into a house, so I am excited

I was wondering that too...maybe she just didn't want me to see her hand ...but seriously if she allows her to give kisses she must be good right?
