Update on aggressive male with female on eggs.....

Sad news. We had one baby hatch only to die. He spent more than 48 hours getting out of the shell and didn't have the strength in him to keep going.

Dad tried his best, and their other 3 eggs turned black a day after. They refused to sit on them after they were black.

Mom & dad are now happily back together. No more fighting and now they have a cage twice the size. They are also eating wheatgrass I've been growing (organic soil only).

Yup, there will be a second, even third chance allowed. I really, really want a baby from this pair and I think the larger cage will help.

On a better note, I think I may have a PROVEN pair of cinnamon pieds. My breeder really likes me and knows I want to start breeding and she wants to down-size. They're only 3 years old and she said always gives her 4-5 large babies without problems!

Ah, the heartbreak and drama of babies....I just wish the first lil guy had made it.....I made my boyfriend take him away and he was gone for like a half hour trying to make sure it wouldn't revive (after I spent two hours on a heating pad with it.....)

aww thats so sad! im sorry for your loss! but next time you know the baby is having trouble getting out of the shell YOU can help...we had to help 2 of our 6 babies hatch. all you need to do is get a small needle, and very gently pick away at the shell. then once baby is completely out of the shell put baby and shell right back in the nest box.

I wouldn't have helped. When he finally got out there was very little chirping, umbilical cord attached (I've been told to leave it), and dad was in there and looked like he was attempting to feed him.

Mom is already eating quite a bit of cuttle bone but no mating yet.
