Members cannot delete their own accounts. I believe the Admin, Dan will not either and will say just not to use it.

We don't normally delete accounts, so my suggestion to you would be to just erase information you have on the account and let it 'rot away'.

With all due respect, isn't not ever deleting accounts strange? Most other communities do, in clean ups of redundancies or people being able to if for one reason or another they want to leave, or is it a numbers thing? Wanting to be seen to have so many members even if lots have not been active for years? I in no way mean any disrespect, I just find it a bit odd.

some forums just dont delete accounts, maybe that way, they wont get introuble if the member wants to come back... i dont know! LOL

The two main reasons we don't usually do this is in case somebody then tries to register under that same username and thus impersonate the other person and also if the person tries to come back (which happens surprisingly often when people ask to have their accounts deleted).

I understand that. Some online accounts really hog space so I can see why deletion would be a necessity. I don't think it's a problem here, so the reason you gave were quite adequate. Thanks for clarifying.

This is not really a recent thread, but I wanted to add my two cents:
I also do not delete user accounts on my community/forum... for basically the same reasons as Dan.
But, I have stated in my Rules and Terms of Service/Registration Agreement that by being a member, you are required to follow rules... well, users must have a way to step down from that. So to solve that, I have created a usergroup entitled "Retired" and if somebody asks to be deleted, they are moved there. In that group, they have the same permissions as guests - cannot post, but can view threads, etc.
I find that to be the best solution.

Well, if you erase everything in your profile, logout, and then don't come back on, you're not really active at all anymore -- thus, while technically I suppose your account is still under the rules, it doesn't really have anything it can follow since rules apply to posting, behavior, etc.

just what the ****ing hell do you have to do to get deleted im going to give you one more chance then im im going to **** up every tread i can till you do .dan you are a total wanker its every bodys right to be deleted
