    Aviary or not?

I have been thinking for ages...(a couple of years so its not that long but oh well) about getting an aviary, but I still live with my mum and she is not interested at all in getting one. If I was going to get one was is the best option out of:

    Getting one of trademe(second hand)
    Building one
Or converting something in the garden into one like the reeeeeally old playhut...

If we were going to build one I was kind of bored this morning so I decided to draw a random like daigrammy thingamebobedo on paint and I was quite proud of it but I have no idea whether it is suitable to put birds in or not but can you guys please tell me whether it would be good to build or not...

I can't find a proper way to convince my mum...I think it is cos I apparently have "too many pets already" but the only pets that belong to me at this house is my cat dog and rats so I think I should be allowed an aviary. Do you guys know any good ways of convincing evil demented parents???

I am going to have to post the picture in the next post because it is on the other side of our computer and I don't want to have to re-write this sooooooo...one minute...

On my plan by the way it says it could hold up to 16 birds but that was just a random estimate I said because that was the size I was thinking but it might turn out smaller if we got one

    Re: Aviary or not?

Ringnecks would proberly kill the canaries.
If i were you i would proberly start off small and and only have two or three pairs. Not sure about over there but you can pick up a good colour bond aviary for $300 on wards. Building my aviary cost us about two grand or some where around that, so not very cheap!

    Re: Aviary or not?

Ok, I wasn't necessarily thinking of putting my ringneck in with the other birds if I got one so i'll leave him out of the question...would ringnecks and cockatiels fight...ok...so now i won't talk about the ringneck...Would it work if I got budgies, cockatiels and lovebirds or something like that...the only aviaries i can find in the buy sell thingy are in whangerei which it the top of new zealand and i am down the bottom the one i found is perfect bt i don't know whether i can afford it at themoment... Would my plan work because we know a builder or would we be best off buying some random other one???

    Re: Aviary or not?

Ohh another thing i just remembered is that cause dad and adam built it we didnt have to pay labor costs either. budgies and tiels can be in the same aviary in my opinion as long as it is big enough

that is a pic of my aviary LOL ignoring guys finishing off the door LOL.
What you could do is ring around and get some quotes of a few builders and find out what they would charge you for the size you want and they would have a good idea of materals to use too. I know how cold winters can get there LOL Been there in winter and brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cold!

    Re: Aviary or not?

Well, I was thinking at the back and the middle to have it completely protected and then at the very front to just have the wiring so that way they could just fly back into shelter because they might want a breeze every now and then...would that work???

    Re: Aviary or not?

yeap that sounds great! We are doing ours half way up but that is because where our aviary is already well protected. I have stood out in it when just the roof was on with a really strong wind and storm and did not get a drop of rain on me.
    LOL naughty birman
