    Recall Training

    Hi everyone!

Darwin is getting in his first flight feathers and I plan on recall training him as soon as possible! I really want to keep him flighted, but he will need to learn some flighted etiquette, if you know what I mean! He won't come to us yet, poor boy has no confidence he can fly at all It actually breaks my heart. But we do "toss" him back to his cage now and then and he does fine.

My question is this: what words do you guys use for "come" and "back to your cage" etc? Hugo and I tried a whole bunch of them and nothing felt right. I want to start using them before Darwin finds his wings!

And any other tips are welcome too!

Dweezel responds to "come" or "Dweezel, come" when coming to me, "go" or "go back" when flying back to his perch/stand, and "cage" when going to his cage.

I also use a clicker and safflowers as incentive

I use "Here!" because I use "come" for the dogs. So, it's "Benny, Here!"

Ok, sounds good and thanks for the tips. I am sure I will have tons more questions as we go.

Did your birds pick it up relatively easily? I definitely plan to use incentives...

I also use "here". I am still working on it though, as most of my birds are clipped in the summer, not the winter.

    Re: Recall Training

Dweezel started very easily, but he always flies to us anyway, it was just a matter of praising it when he did and then trying to get him to do it (which is where the safflowers came in handy! ).

    Re: Recall Training

Wally is recall trained how ever he gets a little hypo and his little brain switches off some times so you pretty much have to yell it at him.
I have no huge tips on it cause we have work on it with wally since we got him home at two weeks old
