My name is Matt, and I just got my first bird!
She is a green parrotlet, hand fed, only 10 weeks old.
I picked her up two days ago, and have been keeping close tabs on her. She seems very uninterested in exploring her cage, I gave her a few different perches to sit on, natural wood, dowels and ropes so she could climb about, but she just chooses to sit there.
She spent the first night up high sleeping on a toy, she hadn't eaten but seemd very interested in sleeping. About 12 hours later, she woke up and I took her out where I put her on a bowl of food and water, she ate/drank for a few mins. Later that night I took her out to play. She is very cuddily, she grinds her beak and puffs up on my shoulder, and will do just about anything to make it up to my hair and play with it (arg!)
Anyways, She now has two sources of water and food in her cage, they are VERY accessable, one down low and one up high near where she likes to sleep, hopefully shes using them when im not looking (I make sure she eats and drinks a few times a day) But she still seems unintrested in exploring her toy filled cage! ( Or explore to find her food/water )
Is there anything else I should be doing to encourage her to explore about? or will that come with time?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
