    Re: Discovered wound.

We've had an unfortunate turn of events.

In the last couple of days what we thought was a cyst was leaking fluid, and Boomer looked tired and inactive. It was really a tumor. We took him to a second vet, a specialist who also does avian surgery. He determined that the tumor could not be operated on because his skin was yellow and possibly had liver disease, so him surviving the operation was not likely, so after watching him suffering we had to put him down. He would have been 2 years old towards the end of June.

Its been especially a pain for my mom because she was attached to him like I was attached to Eric, she taught Boomer "Hi baby", "are you good boy?", "Boomer good boy", "I love you", "HI Boomer". He had such a sweet personality. One time my dad sat down to eat and Boomer came out on the open door and ran towards my dad and said "Hi baby". The fact that he was so young and had such a colorful personality is especially painful.

After 2 deaths in 2 years I think I am done with birds for a long while. I dismantled the cage and I dont want to see it again.

Alex, I'm so sorry to hear that. I understand that it may be a while until you get another bird, we can all understand that.

    Sending good thoughts your way.

You and your mom must be devastated... I'm so sorry.

I hope the fact that you tried to get help for him and that he had a great (though too short) life filled with love, comforts you a little bit...........

That's so sad. i am very sorry. I don't' know what I'd do if I lost my baby. I hope you decide to get another bird in the future. They're such interesting little characters. Maybe get something besides a cockatiel. I've owned many, and they seem to be very sensitive birds compared to others. I'm not sure if that's true, but that's how it seems to me.

    Re: Discovered wound.

I thought id show something before I leave:

Here's a video of Boomer saying I think everything he knows. My mom just kept talking to him, and he picked things up easily. The words he says are in the video description:

And here's a picture gallery of him. The 4 shots in the really small cage is when I first got him at the dorms. I was anxious to bring him home ASAP cus he had just been taken away from his parents and was freaking out:

And I also want to say thank you for your thoughts and kind words. I thought I was going to be visiting here often but now with Boomer gone I think were done with birds or pets of any kind, the emotional cost of loosing one is too high.

I love how he sings and talks to his mirror. It's like he's pumping himself up for the day!
