    Aviaries in the park

Today I enjoyed the sun and made a nice stroll
    home through the city esplanade.
They have some aviaries there and I took some
pictures, because e.g. Melza asked for it...

I also would like to ask some questions.

This is an Antipodes Island Parakeet, the Kakariki species
    of the Antipodes Islands
This is an endangered Kakariki and there is a captive breeding
    programme

They are quite prone to get fungal infections of their air sacs

Shaz is right, Kakariki are immensely playful and soon
they discovered the tangling cord of my camera
My next bird, when I come back home to Germany,
    is a Kakariki. Or two.

Ahhhh.... I just could take him home!!!!!

Yes, Melza, they keep finches and parrots together

Bourkes together with gold finches and green finches

    Javas and Tiels

What kind of parrot is this?

    Anyone knows this pheasant?

A handsome boy flirting with me...
maybe wants to get to know Chicka...

    Scratches!!!!!!

thank you for posting the pic of the Antipodes Island kakariki.

the parrot you asked about is definitely a female superb parrot.
the pheasant is a male lady amherst pheasant.
and the parrot with the euro gold finch is a female turqoise parrot.

thank you for sharing your pic's.

    regards

    Re: Aviaries in the park

    Melza, no problems.
What, no time for a parrot yet?
    Wonder why...

Have you actually ever been to Tiritiri Matangi?
A native bird reserve near Auckland?
My supervisor says it must be absolutely AWESOME.
One of the Takahe, Bob, is coming out of the bush
    and wants scratches!!!!!!
    A Takahe!
I have to come up to Auckland one day and just
have a look at that island.
