I'm so glad that I found this wonderful forum! I've been lurking and reading alot of great posts.
I'm new to the bird world. On January 6, 2008 my daughter won a parakeet at a birthday party. I really wasn't looking to having a pet. Well my daughter really wanted to keep her and named her Ashley. Of course, the responsibility of cleaning the cage and taking care of Ashley was mine (my daughter is 7). A very strong bond between Ashley and I was born after spending time together on a daily basis.
I can't imagine my life without Ashley. She has brought so much happiness to our home. My whole family, including extended family, treats her like a family member. My mom drives 18 miles each way several times a week just to sit, talk and play with her while we are at work and kids in school.
Everyday Ashley amazes us with something new she has learned. I swear that she thinks she's human or we are becoming avian!

Congratulations on the addition to the family! Welcome to Tailfeathers I am sure you will enjoy the time you spend on this website as we give GREAT advice. I am happy to hear you have a lovely bond with Ashley. Do you have any idea what mutation she is? Just out of interest , how did she win her at a party? Did she come with the cage? Welcome!
