Holy wow. These pictures almost look enhanced. Is this how they really look?

Those pics are not doctored, but the flash does enhance the color a bit. I have bred a few double violet medium blue birds and they are gorgeous!

    Re: True Violet.

We have 4 violets, but one that I would classify as you state above as a "true" violet...meaning, it appears violet full body with white face. They are extremely difficult to capture on film...with flash they look blue, and without flash they look dull and grey. But, in person, to the naked eye so to say...they are unmistakeably violet in color, with the tail being an even more vibrant cobalt violet.

I tried a new technique with Shakira today. I opened the lid on her nest so that natural sunlight would come in behind her and illuminate her body. It looks a bit goofy, the angle...but if you look past her huge beak and beyond to her body....you hopefully will capture a glimpse of the violet body.

edit: I'd call this a very honest image of them:

I expect some of Shakira's babies to look like this soon:

...but this silverwing violet is probably my favorite all time mutation.

    Re: True Violet.

Is the violet mutation *really* that rare anymore? I know that it's not as easy to come by as the normal peachie, seagreen, lutino, etc. but I do see violets more and more often.

Don't get me wrong: it's a LOVELY mutation. I mean, who wouldn't like a little purple parrot

I didn't seen any photos that looked like hybrid lovies on this thread... I'm curious as to which ones you are referring to
