Two Hyacinth macaws stolen from Ålborg zoo
Two Hyacinths were stolen from Ålborg Zoo, Denmark. The police are doing their best to try to find them, but given that in Europe they are worth 100,000 Danish kroner (21,250 US dollars) each, I am sure they are doing their best to sell them as soon as possible. Hopefully they will get lucky -- they have chips so if any vet ever sees them and scans, they will know they come from the zoo...
They were really aiming for these birds alone. The newspaper article I read in Denmark (here) was pretty much calling it a coup to the zoo to get the parrots.

Some people only care for themselves and dont even take into account what they are doing to those poor birds.

So sad. How awful. Those birds must be terrified right now.

A bird got taken a while back from a local pet store too. He was so spoiled, he was a big dude and had tons of toys, good food, etc. Someone broke in overnight and took him.
The only thing that consoles is that given the extraordinary prices of such birds, hopefully the ones that buy them, I am presuming without knowing that they were stolen, are going to give them much love.

Ugh, that makes me sick. I have heard stories about people stealing birds because they think they are worth so much. I hope at least that these people know what they are doing with the poor birds. They must be so scared being smuggled around

Well with something like this, it'll never make beyond Danish press; I doubt they'd try to sell these birds in Denmark itself. Unfortunately I don't think they'll have any troubles selling them at all.

woa, thats crazy. I mean how did they get them out anyway? (I couldnt figure out how to translate that article)
And I love birds, but 22 grand?! Who pays that much for a bird?!!!!
Hopefully if the people who buy them are willing to pay that much, they will be able to provide them a nice home too.

I am curious to know how they got them out too. My Zoo here there is staff around 24/7 it would have been nearly impossible unless the worked there.

The article says that there are dog patrols and everything there overnight, however they somehow managed to jump the fence, break a door, and clip off several large padlocks to the cage. They're saying that it was probably commissioned work and that they probably had a large network of people with them to ensure that it would all go according to plan.
