    Bird Blankie

This is a major winner for a snuggly bird. Darwin will choose this hanging blanket many times over his sleeping tent. He preens it, fights with it, fluffs out and rubs his head all over it...

It was super easy to make with an extra piece of fleece (took about 30 minutes).

Cut a square with rounded corners (I did about a 12" x 12" square), then slice the sides up and stick a hole somewhere in the center (I did off-center).

Then to hang it, I used a washer from an extra perch and a piece of string like material (whatever bird safe material you have on hand). The first time I made it, I used a long strip of the same fleece material, but Darwin chewed through it, so I redid the hanging piece with a leftover leather strip from a toy. Just go through the washer several times so that it will hang flat and tie a loop at the top for a link.

Then hang somewhere along a perch. These are a few shots I have gotten of Darwin enjoying his blankie...

I know this isn't the best photo quality, but you can see how he is all fluffed up...what a cutie.

I love it! Mateo LOVES cotton/cloth/fleece, so I'm sure he'd go nuts for this. I'm going to make one, too!

Thanks for the idea. Very cool.

    Re: Bird Blankie

fyi, i was in toys r us (actually babies r us) today and i saw something like this (yes, i was inspired....) - it's a blankie "star" - really really soft, with a little stuffed animal head in the middle of the blanket (i.e., easy to hang by) - all sewn nicely - 1.99.......

    Re: Bird Blankie

I think I have seen these too, the head is on top right? I guess my concern would be the stitching. I try not to use anything with threads that birds can chew.

    Re: Bird Blankie

yup - the head is kind of in the middle..... stitching is a valid concern - i saw these and thought of your blanket - if nothing else, it's a piece of cloth raring to go, with an added bonus of a cute face looking at you so far my guys have been good with stitched things, but like anything else, supervision is a must......
