    I have this pigeon that.....

Laid an egg last night. She is an only pigeon so there is no chance of fertility. I am so excited and happy. The thing is I know that she is going to lay more and there is no nest so should I make one? I know the leave the egg so that is one less she has to lay. She has high calcium grit that she loves to eat so she apparently doesn't have egg binding. She still eats like a hog and drinks like a fish and poos like a bird. She didn't even make indications that she was even going to lay. So should I make a nest for the others?

I am of the belief that if you are not breeding, it is best to do everything in your power to discourage egg laying, so I wouldn't buy her a nest.

That's just me, though. Others, more experienced with hens might be able to help more.

Pigeons don't really use much of a nest, 3 pieces of hay criss crossed in front of them is what most pigeons consider a "nest", most of mine just sit in a corner somewhere and just kick out the nest material.....

Pigeons only lay a clutch of 2 eggs, so I would let her lay the second egg and then hard boil them and let her sit on those, she will quit when she gets bored of them. If you take them away she will just keep on laying more, they will even drop the eggs off the perch if they have to.

Dropping eggs from the perches is my biggest problem this year, normally every one of my pairs has their own corner, but this year they are all over the place and out of 15 pairs only 2 are sitting(and not doing a good job), the rest keep on not nesting but dropping eggs off the perches........

Pigeons are hardwired to have a clutch of 2 every 8 weeks or so, nothin will really stop them.

There are people who sell pigeon eggs.
    They taste yummy.

I wouldn't eat a pigeon egg, the egg white stays clear even after boiling, I find that kinda creepy. Also its not healthy for the pigeon to lay that much(yes they will naturally have 5 clutches a year, but between eggs they have a 8-10 week break(raising young).

You hit the nail on the head with that info Anna. my doves do the same. only they love to make a huge nest out of straw, they spend hours collecting and putting it in just the right spot even after they lay the eggs, they keep adding more and more straw.

Doves seem to like nesting material, pigeons not so much. Although there are exeptions, my ex-bf had 1 roller hen out of 100 that build a 5 inch tall nest out of twigs(which collapes half way through incubation).
