    Stitch steps up!*now with pics*

I had to persuade him, but once he stepped up, he was calm. I laddered him hand to hand a little. He did bite softly, but an "Ah ah ah" stops him. I cuddled him into my chest, and preened his little head, he was not totally relaxed, but it's a start. He perches well with both legs, his splay leg is weaker, but he perches with it normally! Now he is napping with his splay leg tucked up. Content fid.

AWE! What a cute little splay-legged fid

Want to know a good idea for getting his splay leg a little bit stronger?

•When you feel comfortable handling him more and more, have him perch on your finger and then flip him upside down so he'll have to hang off your finger

    • you can also put him on the ground and make him chase your fingers, even though he's running, still builds up strong feetsies.

    • one last thing, just make sure he has LOTS of variety widths in perches - thick, thin, textured etc... the more the merrier to give his feet exercise

His breeder says he is male, 2 years old. From what I have read sexing them by tail barring is not 100% accurate. His center tail feathers are black.

Lori- Ann, your breeder is correct the only true way to know for sure is DNA. I only assume Adrian is a female as she has all the female traits, very little black barring, no black center tail feather and her head is more rounded than Rocky's also her the length of their tail feathers is not the same. Someday I may get them DNA'd but for now I will assume them m/f.

    Stitch is so cute!!

Oh, the breeder didn't say anything, other than he is male. I didn't ask if she DNA tests them, perhaps she does. I found by researching on my own, that sex can be determined by tail markings, males generally have the center tail feather all black, Stitch's is. But also read that the shoulder markings and black tail tipping thought to be female could be wrong. But most agree that a black center tail feather is male. But like all things, I am sure there are exceptions. So here's hoping he is a he! LOL
