    Diamond Dove? Help??

I am considering getting a Diamond Dove. I would like to know your imput if the are good pets? Do they bond with you? (I am only getting one so) Should I get a male or female? I would really like to know your experience with Diamond Doves.
    Thanks.
Also can you keep a canary with a dove or finches?

Canary and finches, yes, as long as you supervise at first to make sure there are no problems (introduce them in neutral territory, after quarantine of course). Canaries and doves, I really don't know!

Mom to Ducky! (female cinnamon GCC)...THANK YOU Keet for the gorgeous sig!!
Won't you come see me after 12am?

    Re: Diamond Dove? Help??

I have canaries and a diamond dove. but I did not put the canaries in with the dove, due to that they peck at the dove. I have my DD in with my gouldian finches, they get along real well. they have no problems getting along. it may not be the case for you because all birds are different. but if you want to try it just make sure its on a day or a weekend that you can watch them close. my zeebra finches are to flighty to put with the DD, it scares the dove to much so they have their own flight cage. good luck

You can teach a DD to be held. the trouble I found is that I dont want to clip her wings, she is in a flight cage and loves to fly. but they are so frail that I dont think she could take a face plant to a window. she will sit on my finger but only in the cage. if you wanted to teach one you could, just have the wings clipped. Good luck

    Re: Diamond Dove? Help??

Diamond doves are the smallest of doves, and can be hand tamed, although, IME they tend to be more flighty than ringnecks. If you work patiently and carefully with them, they could be tamed or at east get used to your presence.

Depending on how large your enclosure is, you can keep doves, finches, and canaries together. I have kept all 3 together in an aviary without issue. However, it was a very large space with lots of perches and hiding places.
