both make great pets really. just make sure they are handfed and friendly. ya will find that it is easier to find a tiel but if ya really want a bourke then be patient and ya can find one. i think tiels are a little sweeter though.
(Sorry I am not sure which category this thread should be in!)
I am a responsible 7th grader and I am looking into getting a pet bird. I have been reasearching for months now and I have narrowed it down to a a Bourke Parakeet or a cockatiel. Which do you suggest I get?
Does anyone have a Bourke Parakeet? What are they like as pets? Any tips on caring for them would be appreciated.
P.S. I have never had a bird but I am fascinated by them!

Life without birds, is not a life I could live
If you are worried about noise, a Bourke's parakeet might be the way to go. They are VERY quiet compared to other parakeets and parrots. They don't climb about their cages in the same way that budgies or cockatiels do, so you want to make sure that they have plenty of perches to hop back and forth on.
Cockatiels are a more vocal and a bit more playful. And as Javi said, they are easier to come by.
Both can be very sweet companions, particularly when they are properly hand-raised and/or socialized.
Best of luck,
