I just posted a pic of Pepper & Sherrie. It's not very good, but you can get an idea of what a beautiful little couple they are

    First time parakeet breeding tips?

Hi. I've had my pair of 'keets together for 1 1/2 years, and they just started mating. I have been doing a lot of reading, and believe I have them ready for breeding. They have a large new cage, seed, hard-boiled egg w/ shells, bits of cracker & fresh minced veggies & a cuttlebone. I put a nest box in today with a concave & natural fiber nesting pad, but they have yet to investigate it. I put the female inside, but she left it quickly and has not looked at it since. They are in excellent health, and I often see them preening & feeding one another. Is there anything else I should do? I spoke with some breeders, and they said unless the female rejects the young, I shouldn't worry about hand feeding. I want to do what I can to encourage successful breeding & healthy eggs. Suggestions welcome.

One of the most important things for me was learning to handfeed and getting baby bird food before I needed it... Turned out one of my hens is pretty bad at feeding her babies, so I ended up having to supplement them with handfeeding twice a day...

    hello
When your trying to breed your budgies let them get used to the nestbox don't try and force them to go in the box or you'll just make them scared of it at least that's what i've heard.I'm sure your budgies will do fine once they get used to the nest box. They'll investigate the box ,and gradually be spending more and more time in the box, when it gets to the point where the female spends the whole day or close to the whole day in the nest box that's a sign that she will probably lay soon.Another sign that your budgie will be laying soon is that you will hear her chewing on the concave part of the nestbox.Well I hope that I've helped! GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

    (keetsmart)

After they have bred it usually takes 7 to 8 days for the female to lay the first egg, then the others come about a day at a time....ping
