    New White Face

This is my new baby (pics here http://www.tailfeathersnetwork.com/c...ad.php?t=58153 )

Now here is my confusion... He has speckles on his face that look cinnamon and the middle of his back looks cinnamon but most of the bird is grey. This is really weird. Any ideas?

Also, do males and females have different sounding chirps? The WF sounds completely different from my two girls.

    Adorable
To answer your question on chirps, usually they do differ. Some people use the idea to sex them, but of course, it isn't 100%. I can't help with mutations, as 'Tiels just end up confusing me with all of theirs!

    Re: New White Face

I have a whiteface pied, and he does sound different from my normal grey (but they're both males, and I've always read males to be more vocal). I just thought each bird had its distinct tone, like humans and their voices. Then again, my whiteace is lot louder, and I've attributed this trait to him being significantly bigger (he weighs a little over 100 grams versus my normal grey who weights 76 grams). The vet says that whiteface pied mutations usually result in a bigger bird, so who knows? Maybe mutations also change a bird's sound as they do a bird's appearance. It'd be interesting to do a study to see if there's a possible connection.

That's really interesting! I am really thinking he is a boy!! He sings!! Really pretty! My girls never chirped and sang like him I am almos 100% sure. I'll probably still sex him. Oh I just can even get over how pretty he sings! I've always wanted a male Tiel. I should get a video up!

Lisa She/he is a nice looking kid. I have two white face's and they do have different types of sounds verses the Lutino and Grey's that I have. Hard to explain the difference but it's like a shorter, squeakier chirp.

    Re: New White Face

I own 16 cockatiels. And probley about 10 are whitefaces. I have noticed that "my" male whitefaces sing more then the other mutations, and they talk too. My normal grays and pieds, they dont sing too often.

As for the spots on his face, your whiteface is split to pied, and pied can have spots any where. So thats probley why he is like that. But I think its really cute.

He might loose them when he molts, and his face turn completely white. Who knows.
