    That is a Fischer's/Peachfaced hybrid.

Yeah. Thats what my best thought was!

i was thinking it was a hybrid, the orange beak and the eye rings didnt fit with a one of each species.

hmm how interesting, i wonder if it has had any behavioural issues due to its species confusion...?

From what I understand, a hybrid fishers/peachface will have issues when it reaches sexual maturity. Although Fishers and Peachies breed, and nest, similarly, there are subtle differences that the bird will come into conflict with. Also, the personality traits that are inherent in each species might conflict within the bird.
I can honestly say I don't agree with hybridisation at all, and I feel for the bird. Hopefully it wont come into conflict with itself, although, more often than not they do.

Re: What kind of lovebird is this?

    she is gorgeous

i think as pets the hybrids do pretty well... it's only when they come into contact with potential mates, or have other problems that trigger issues (like idiots who drive into the back of your car grrrrrrrrr) that you get problems. Sparks did fine until the accident... its only now at (gosh nearly 6 years old) we're having issues...

And that cage is AWFUL so i think any issues would have probably hit by now.... especially as she's hit sexual maturity already.

nice sleepy time cage... but not a home!

Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

Re: What kind of lovebird is this?

thanks everyone for your heads up.

i dont agree with hybridation either, but this bird has been born and i just hope that it gets the care it needs. its in a care on its own, i wonder if its tame?

i know there is no way i would ever be able to get her, if she was nearer to me, i might be tempted, but im not sure how she would go anyway. it might confuse her more if she were to see walle...

i might send them an email and ask a bit more about her, seeming as though this is the first hbryid i have seen in NZ.

Re: What kind of lovebird is this?

If you contact them, I would be wary about calling her a hybrid since they claim she is a full Peachfaced. They may think you are just trying to call them out and respond in a negative way, but then again, they may have no idea and not really care (unless they are trying to sell it as a breeder).

They are very different! They gather nesting material differently (feather weaving vs. by mouth), make the nest completely different (flat and open vs. cavern), and they can have very different calls for instigating mating time.
