    My new turtle tank setup!

Last night I bought a new 50 gallon tank and new parts for my 2 red ear sliders, Cash and Zissou.

It's still cloudy, as sand is still settling, so I don't have the filter running until the sand has all settled. And I need to get the new UVB light set up tonight, but here it is so far.

Zissou is on the right, Cash is on the left.

Dock I built with PVC pipe and tile

Blurry, but a view from the dock.

That is an awesome set up! I really need to do something with my turtle tank too, and you have now inspired me.

What did you make the ramp with?

It's called 'light diffuser' at any hardware store - super easy to use, and supports their weight easily! Silicone holds it well too, though I used a waterproof 5 min epoxy.
It's also what the 12x12 tile sits on, and the grip on the ramp and under the tile is the rug gripper stuff you buy in sheets at target or any other store.

So far they love it! They have their own sleeping areas (on opposite sides of the tank, of course) and they push the black rocks around in the sand making fun patterns, and they went and explored the basking area already too.

I don't know a ton about them but just out of curiosity will that tank be big enough for two when they are full size?

No, since they are both females, they'll get around 12 inches each. This one however will last them a good number of years. This summer I plan on making the dock an above tank setup, so they have even more swimming room.

Nice job, Sarah! They have to really be happy - lots of room and light to bask. I like the platform idea a lot. You're lucky though, my turtles would have the plants all over the place!

Re: My new turtle tank setup!

it's great for now, but yea, eventually you will need a MUCH larger set up. It's great that you're committed to giving them a good, sizeable home tho...turtles are far too often seen as "throw away" pets that people think can live in a fishbowl and it frustrates me to NO end. They also live a VERY VERY VERY long time, if cared for properly, and most ppl just don't take that into consideration. I know I personally wouldn't own one, nor would I recommend them to anyone as pets, but you seem to be taking excellent care of their needs, so for that I applaud you.

Re: My new turtle tank setup!

Man I'm jealous. I have 2 red eared turtles. Still really tiny in the lagoon. I was wanting to by them a 10 gallon tank and set it up for christmas. It's funny my smallest one puts his neck over the side & flips out. We play where's waldo often, lol. Were they that big when you bought them or did they grow into their tank?
