    Chance and Bubbles

Chance and bubbles came to me a few months back. They have bonded quite well, and this morning I got a huge surprise.

I went to feed all my fids when I realized chance and bubbles were missing.

I remembered they had been mating a few days back, so I looked into one of the nestboxes.

I found both inside. (nestbox empty).

Then about 15mins ago, I decided to go look in the box again.
And mrs.bubbles popped out too eggs.

I was wondering if this happens often? As this would be there very first clutch, and none of my other pairs laid two eggs on the same day.

Above Chance (His mother was a cinnamon, and his father was a cinnamon pied)

And Bubbles, (Her mother was a normal gray, and her father was a cinnamon.) I seen the parents when I bought the pair.

What a cute couple! Sorry can't help with the egg timing, seems quite unusual though. How is Yoshi, I don't remember if he is living with you again?

Hmmm.... I don't think I have ever heard anything like that before. I guess it's not the first time, but I bet it doesn't happen often.
Good luck with 'em and let us know if they turn out fertile!

... could it be that another bird laid an egg in that nest box and then Mrs Bubbles adopted the same nest box??! Maybe they are sharing? I am just guessing. You mentioned nest boxes (plural) so I am assuming you may have other birds.

    Or twins??

Cute birds! I spend so much time going 'Awwww!!!' when I look at all the pics.

'Tiels lay an egg every other day usually. Either you've got two sharing or Chance hasn't been telling you something ^~ Mine all like to lay in the same nestbox -.- A nightmare! One year I had 20 eggs in one box. Glad they didn't all hatch -.-

    Re: Chance and Bubbles

    12/16/08, egg #3 was laid.

I dont think that another hen laid an egg. As all my pairs are proven, and would have claimed that nestbox.

The male Chance, is very protective of the box. He wont let any other birds near, and none of my other pairs have taken intereste in a box, or gave been mating. And as you can see from the picture, chance is indeed a male.

But now we have three eggs. I cant waite to candle them, and see if they are fertile. More pics soon.

    Re: Chance and Bubbles

Well the eggs were due to hatch on Jan 1st, which is only a few days away. So I thought it would be safe to candle the eggs. Unfortunatly all 5 eggs are clear.

And on my way to putting the eggs back in the box, One fell and broke on the floor. Eggs were not fertile. The only thing in them were egg yolk.

So Should I throw the other 4 out now? The father has been sitting on them constantly, and I know they are waisting there time.

BTW this is a picture of one of the eggs. This egg was clear, no veins, no chick.
