Unhappy Burned roof of my mouth…

Have you ever burned the roof of your mouth? I think most people have done this. I’ve done it in the past, but this time… I bit into a pizza with VERY hot cheese topping (I was hungry, impatient, and am now paying for it), and burned the roof of my mouth. This happened last week, Thursday night for dinner. It’s Tuesday (almost a week later) and I am still sore and tender.

Hot foods hurt, bananas hurt, and OMG… I am just eating an orange (I know – citrus), and it hurts like… well, you know. Sigh.

I’ve never burned the roof of my mouth that it hurt for so many days after (and no signs of it slowing down).

Has anybody else burned it this bad, or is this abnormal? Any thoughts or input appreciated.

Wow, never that bad before! I hope you feel better soon. Sorry, I don't know what can help with it.

    You poor thing

Try icecream to soothe it, I use icecream for sore throats and burnt tongues.

Sounds painfull, none of mine kept burning for that long so you must of really burned it bad. Is it blistered? Poor girl nothing is worse then a burned mouth, everything hurts it!

Mary, that hurts so bad. I've done it more than once. Best treatment is ice cream. I'm not sure if it really helps, but I love ice cream.
    Here is some practical advice:

Re: Burned roof of my mouth…

I do this every time I drink hot chocolate at an arena or restaurant. Every single time, no matter how long I wait for it to cool down. I find that keeping a bit of ice around the suck now and then helps a bit with the stinging and gargling a bit of salt water now and then will help it to heal over faster. Once I burned myself so bad the skin that was burned actually peeled off the roof of my mouth. So gross.

Oh that sounds so painful I hope you feel better soon. I've never burned my mouth that bad.
Try eating ice cream, yogurt, soft foods that won't hurt that bad. Hope you feel better soon!

I also suggest rinsing your mouth with salt water - I do every time I have a sore from burning my mouth or biting my cheek... it heals much faster!

I know your pain! I burned my mouth on a cheese toastie and the tenderness seemed to last forever! I just eat lots of ice cream and cold foods to try and soothe it, but really I'm not sure if it did any good!

Try the ice cream thing. That's what I do with myself and the kids...I even force hubby to do it when he burns his mouth...*he HATES ice cream, cake, pie....all that yummy stuff* I hope you feel better soon, and if it doesn't start to go away within a few more days then you should probably make an appointment with a doctor to at least have it checked out.

If not ice cream, ice cubes. I burnt the roof of my mouth eating chips of all things. Go figure! But it sounds like you really burnt yourself, for you to be hurting that much. If it's a first degree burn, it's probably going to sting a while. No acids!

Re: Burned roof of my mouth…

LOL, before I even opened the thread, I was thinking, "Oh, I bet she burned it on pizza."

    Boy was I right...

Yeah... the hot oils and cheese on top is a real killer.

I have burnt the roof of my mouth a little bit... but not anything lasting... usually just a quick... "ow" and then I'm fine... but then again, my mother says that I have a high pain tolerance, so I just might not notice.
(she says that because I notice absolutely no differance between Vicadin and Advil lol)
