Might parents abandon the babies after handling the babies?

In regarding my new baby parakeet, my mom talked to a lady who said she has breeded parakeets and she said it be best not to handle the babies until about 2 weeks goes by because sometimes after handling them the parents won't take care of them anymore and they can die. though I have read in a few sources around here and around the internet that you should handle them within a few days after birth to check up on them, that some breeders even handle them from day one.

So I don't know how accurate the things she said are or maybe just rare occurance? Can you guys confirm? Had in your (x) years of parakeet breeeding, had any such occurance happened?

    -thanks

Birds will not abandon their young just because they've been handled, that is a myth. They have weak senses of smell, unlike mammals, so you can handle the babies without worry.
