Re: An Emergency thread
Maybe suggest Dan put it to a poll?
I myself would not vote in favor of it, due to reasons already stated by previous posters.

Re: An Emergency thread
I agree that it's not a great idea. Too much possible danger in a section like that

Re: An Emergency thread
I think an emergency thread is an amazing idea. Maybe with sticky's on certain symptoms and what it could be and i definetly think a sticky on how to (properly) set up a hospital tank would be good. I vote yes.

Re: An Emergency thread
The problem with closed sticky threads is that many people just won't read them...how many posts do we have on sick birds where we tell the user what to do, but when the next user with a sick bird comes along, they post practically the exact same question and don't read prior answers?
I would probably vote nay based on the risks involved and also because you can create an Emergency forum with all the stickies you want but I guarantee you, you will still get emergency threads in the other bird forums like we do now.
We already have many sick bird threads with wonderful information in them.

Re: An Emergency thread
What if someone follows the advise a TFer gave them, and their bird ends up dying? People seek legal action for crazy reasons these days.... (Coffee hot? Go figure...)

Re: An Emergency thread
I also thought about that, but since TFers are (for the most part) unlicensed, there is really nothing you could sue them for. What are they gonna do, take away your TF subscription? However, stranger things have happened.

Re: An Emergency thread
That same logic applies though to any threads already done with sick birds, no stupid advice has been given so far and there are many many seperate threads saying my bird is sick, help. I don't see the difference in having them in one place, as well as sticky's.

Re: An Emergency thread
I had a great list of threads from the different bird sections to illustrate my point but pushed backspace and lost them all. If you look in the different forums in dangers and health you will see that we already do this. Even most who say here they wouldn't do it as itis dangerous to give advice have done so.

Re: An Emergency thread
That was the point I was going to make. If such an event would happen (bad advice resulting in death) then surely it would be happening now as we speak? With all compromise in my mind, I don't think it would make a great deal of difference, it is just simply organizing it all and making it more direct for those in trouble.
I know there are great risks but as I stated in my previous posts that people will validate advice given on the thread before it is compiled and then put up on the board for those in need to follow. Knowing the people here at tailfeathers (vast majority considerate people) I don't think knowledgeable people (most of us) would let bad advice that has been offered to the sticky-d threads go through to be compiled and offered so I don't see much of a threat. I would see it as dangerous and incredibly precarious but only if the advice was blindly blurted on to the threads without validation. Even with this I we don't see this very often in the threads existing now, I'm not saying that it would never happen but nevertheless I think that form of system would be effective in sieving out dangerous advice.

I was thinking more about Dan, and the community, not the TFers themselves.
