How to make a happy hut?

OK so i have fabric but ho do you get the triangle shape? Would you put cardboard in three pieces and then so them together or what? Step by Step directions on any of you "happy huts" or any ither kind of hut would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance.

i took mine and just put three pieces of cardboard in and added buttons on the edge so it became a toy.

For the one I made, I used plastic canvas from an old tent (you can get it at a craft store) to keep the bottom stiff, but not the sides. Basically, make a rectangle as wide as the tent will be and 3 times as long as you want the base to be wide (so like, 10 inches wide and 24 inches long or whatever).

Cut two and sew up long edges.

Insert 1-2 layers of canvas (this way you can wash the tent) and put in the middle of the tube. Sew up each side, then sew the ends together with one small loop at each end for hanging.

I have a removable pad in Cricket's tent from his old tent, but you could just sew one of those too.

LC instructions are perfect .. def use some sort of plastic.. and not cardboard unless you enjoy having to reattach the cardboard every time.. i didnt.. so i ended up buying one. lol!!

Oh, I forgot. If you're going to use a fabric that frays, you'll want to hem the short edges before hand, so that when you sew the top together there aren't any loose threads that will be coming out. If you use fleece you don't need to though.

i made mine to have a perch in the bottom, rather than a solid bottom.

Here is a Happy hut/snuggle hut I made for sellie, its still in its 'testing' stages







Ok, so its a little shorter than I'd like but it works!
Instructions:
Cut a rectange 17" by 9" make the short side on the fold. (so one 9" side is a fold instead of a cut or raw edge) then with the right sides (printed side) together sew along the long sides leaving the 9" side open.

Then flip the right sides out. take what ever your using for the base, i used this felt stuff but 2 pieces. cut to size (about 5" long by 8" long can't remember for exact, but you can measure, a good way to measure is to divide the total length (long way) by 3.) then put base inside in the middle. cut 2 strips for hanging, about 4-6" then fold in half. place them with the 2 ends of the fabric together and sew completing the hut. attach quick links and apply in cage.

I am too nervous to make a bed because I have heard many a horror story where a bird died that got caught up in a loose thread. I have tried many sleep huts in the last year and the winner for beauty, washability, durability and comfort are the ones I found by an ebay seller. Does this have a back in it or is it open on both ends. Pickles needs something to cuddle in at night and I would love to make it. My DH thinks that she needs something enclosed and I think she doesn't since she would have to turn around inside.

This is the link to the hut that I bought for my Zodi girl. Cute design and constructed very nicely. This woman also constructs the tent/huts with the perches as some of you were talking about. This hut is a little bigger than Zodi requires, but she doesn't mind the spaciousness lol
