I love the look of Java Rice Finches, but know next to nothing about them. Hopefully someone else can help you out!
hey, i was just wondering if anyone around here has any java finches? i think they are so pretty, and was wondering what their care is like. are they more difficult to take care of than other finches? are they aggressive towards other finches (say a zebra finch)? i don't really know anything about them!

Java Rice Finches are beautiful highly active birds. They come in some color mutations. These birds keep themselves immaculately cleaned, bathed and groomed. If you run across one that is in rough feather, it is a sick bird. They are sexually dimorphic, but you really have to have an eye to see it. The difference between the sexes is in the cere/upper mandible area. Cocks are broader in that area than hens.
Java Rice Finches are highly intelligent. If there is ANY opening for escaped in a cage or large walk in flight they will find it in minuets. These birds are very aggressive - NEVER put them with passive birds like Zebra finches or Society Finches. In a pinch the Java could be housed in an overly large cage with budgies and still hold their own ground. However, I would NEVER recommend housing mixed species like this except in a dire emergency and never for a prolonged time.
i have javas!
they are fantastic birds!
oh and zebs are classed as aggressive finches aswell.
mine live with my finches and get on fine... my aviary is huge though,,
