    Bird Harness?

I recently saw online that it is possible to buy a bird harness for birds, well in my case a cockateil. I'm very tempted to buy one that way i can take it outside such as when i go out for a walk. But what i'm afraid of is will it hurt my cockateil both mentally and physically? i asked the shop keeper and they said it's "normal" i'm just wondering does anyone have some experience in this field?

In my experience with them, they are terrible. I can't get my birds to relax with them on. I can get the thing on the bird, but getting them to not totally freak out is the hard part; it's almost as if they are having a night fright with the thing on.

    Re: Bird Harness?

I have bought the aviator bird harness and it works great for my cheeky bird! It comes with a DVD to teach you how to get your birds to accept the harness and enjoy wearing it.
Here is a pic with her wearing her harness:

That is a lovely pic of your tiel, she seem to be enjoying the outdoors. I have heard that the Aviator is def. the best bird harness out their.

    Re: Bird Harness?

While i am not a fan of harnesses i prefer flight suties(i make them) i have a budgie that loves to go out side with the suit on. It takes while to train a bird to accept any thing on there body but once you get them trained it is wonderfull. I think the birds are happier because they get to go out side and be more like a "wild" bird. and i think people are happier becuse there bird is happy.

    Re: Bird Harness?

    i prefer the flight suit

we had a Harness for our Quaker had it all of 3 mins. after fighting to get it on (he hates any thing new) he had it unclipped and off 20 seconds after finally getting it on him

the brand was tether feather or something like that, but i've heard if your going to use a harness ONLY use Aviator Bird Harness

but i've never tried it after the experience with the other one I refuse to try any more (i'm just glad we were still in the house )

So i stick with Flight suits instead my sons Tiel' Nibbles loves being out side with hers

    Re: Bird Harness?

I'v only had good experiances with my aviator but only heard bad things about the 'teather feather'.
The aviator is escape proof and as I said it comes with a DVD on how to introduce your bird to the idea of wearing the harness...

    Re: Bird Harness?

I would like one of these as it would be nice to let Ollie in the garden in the summer (hes fully flighted).

But the thought of trying to put him in it fills my head with thoughts of me getting my fingers ripped off! Lol. Ollie is very loving but when hes not happy, boy does he get moody. Hehe.

Out of interest whats it like if your bird tries to fly in it? As obviously theyre not going to get very far, but does this cause much hassle?
