    Giving my Eclectus a Bath.

I have a quick question for everyone. I just went to Pittsburg yesterday and bought an Eclectus. I was told that he hasnt had a bath yet (he is only 4 months old). So I get in the shower with him today and he seems to LOVE it. My question is how long should I shower him for? I left him in there with me for about 5 minutes or so but im not sure if thats to long or not. Also how often can I bath him a week? Thanks.

P.S. should I dry him off or let him do it?

Re: Giving my Eclectus a Bath.

Well i dont know much about Eclectus, but i know a bit about baths do's and dont;s

Let him dry himself off, if its really cold you might want to towel him off
DO NOT USE A BLOW DRIER

I dont know how long is too long or too short, i put my tiel in the shower with me and let him sit in the water for about 5-10 min or untill he seems bored.
And i know that tiels can have a shower every day if i wanted but should have two a week atleast.

    I hope i helped a little!

My green cheek is happy with baths 2-3 times a week. If I give them to her every day, she seems irritated, but if I wait a few days in between she is very eager and willing.

As for the time to leave him in there...Ducky goes with me for the whole length of my shower. About 15 minutes. Sometimes a little longer. If the bird is enjoying it, keep going!

Mom to Ducky! (female cinnamon GCC)...THANK YOU Keet for the gorgeous sig!!
Won't you come see me after 12am?

Loki comes into the shower with me every time i go (unless it's late at night because I like her dry before going to sleep). She stays in there and will get drenched, upwards of 30min. Some days she loves it, other days she could care less. She has obvious body gestures which shows me she wants to take a shower that day and otherwise, i jsut put her on her shower perch and let her get the benefits of the humidity.

Congrats on your eclectus. They seem like interesting birds!

If your bird enjoys the shower, then I'd take him in every time you shower. He can stay in there until he is sick of it, or until you are sick of it, whichever comes first.

My conure, Wesley, would stay in there all day if I was willing to. Not that I've ever tried anything longer than 30 mins...

My female LOVES to shower with me. I bring her in for my whole shower, but don't get her wet until just before its time to get out. Usually 5 minutes or so. I also mist her with aloe vera juice a couple times a week. But she likes to shower EVERY DAY.

After the shower, I let her shake off, then I get her to flap a bit, then I bring her back to her cage. She will then climb to the top of the play gym on top of the conures cage, and finish her grooming.

What for? I've never read anything about spraying aloe vera except for maybe a would or something. Hmm....

Re: Giving my Eclectus a Bath.

The aloe is good for skin and feathers. It is common for eclectus pets to be pluckers. The aloe is very soothing, and can lessen the plucking. Most other eclectus that I have seen have some kind of plucking issues. Diet is a main cause, but stress and allergies also cause problems.
Karma likes the aloe, and she doesn't pluck. (We had a minor issue with plucking/itching when she was on Harrisons. We took her off, and no more plucking.)

Re: Giving my Eclectus a Bath.

Hi there I was thinking the same thing as you. Mine is about 4 months old also and i take him in the shower with me. I moved his seat up to the head of the shower and omg he loves it. He did not want to get out. So i think its ok to leave him as long as your in there. Mardi did not want to get out lol. Now he is in the living room making all kinds of sounds i think he is very happy with me today lol.
    Good luck with yours.
