I can not help with this question but here to lend support in your worrying time.
Thinking of you both.
Okay. Going to start with my story before my questions!!
One of my worst nightmares owning a female budgie came true a few days ago. She suffered a full prolapse while trying to expell an egg. Was one of the most awful things I have ever seen, a huge bloody 'bulb' coming out of her.
We rushed her into emergency at 2:00 am Thursday morning and they did surgery to remove the egg. I think we caught it fairly fast, but I'm not certain. She responded well to surgery, but unfortunatly they found *another* egg that would soon be coming out. She stayed overnight that night, and I took her home for the day on Wednesday to watch her progress. She began to make painful sounds again and I knew she was again in trouble with the other egg. I rushed her into her regular vet (since it was regular hours) and they had to go in and collapse the other egg in surgery to remove it. She stayed the night there.
Was looking good when I brought her home on Friday. Eating, and the vent area much better, passing bowel movements. However, yesterday and this morning she was barely eating and was not improving in behaviour. I brought her *back* in for a checkup today and she had dropped 8 or 9 grams since this whole thing started. I opted to have her stay the night today/ tonight in the hospital to recieve tube feeding/injections/sub cutaneous fluids. The vet said she has a really good chance of making it if we can get her over this hump, and that her vent improves every day. However, this huge drop in weight and total sick symptoms are making me doubt her chances at this point...regardless of if her vent 'looks' better.
All in all, she's had (Since Thursday Morning)
1.) 2 egg removal surgeries
2.) Treated with Baytril 2 times a day, Meloxicam 2 times a day, and Calcium once a day.
3.) Tube feedings
4.) Sub-cutaneous fluids
5.) She will get fast acting injections tonight.
Which brings me to my question! Can anyone share with me their experience regarding a budgie of theirs who has had a prolapse? Did they recover? If If so, how long did it take to get them back on track? If they did not recover, did they die soon after prolapse, or did they pass on a few days later? How long are they in pain for....?
Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'm just so beside myself from all of this ... in tears, and so so scared for her.
Thank you.

Gina I am so sorry your girl isnt well, hopefully since she has made it through so much already she will have the strength to get better. You have my thoughts and prayers and I do hope she gets better.
I have no help for you either but wanted to let you know you will be in my thoughts...
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.
Thank you both for your kind words
I picked her up from the hospital today. She's picking at the area lot, but she seems to be pretty alert. I guess it is wait and see from here, since there is no way I can afford any more hospital stays. I'll update on what the outcome ends up being for her.
Thanks again for your thoughts.

Let us know how she is doing and I will be keeping both of you in my thoughts.

I just wanted to update you.
Unfortunatly, Cinque passed away about 2 hours ago.
She hung in there for close to 6 days and I'm proud of her. Despite doing the best we could, something else must have gone wrong that didn't get her over the hump. There is a possibility there was another egg up there that the vet didn't catch. I really thought she would pull through. She looked in good shape when I brought her home yesterday. The vent kept healing each day, but I guess something else was happening inside her.
She had a great life despite only being 3 years old. I had the honor of having her hatch in my own home and raising her since birth (she was one of the babies that I bred--- advice on that was actually of my very posts in here and everyone guided me through her hatching). It was too soon for her, and I'll miss her dearly.
Thanks again for your support.
And if anyone ever has *any* questions regarding prolapse or egg binding, feel free to contact me at any time. I now know quite a bit on the subject and hopefully I can help someone else.
Her when she was a baby (on the left).
Her when she was just leaving the nestbox. (Her beak hadn't grown into her face yet...lol)
RIP baby girl.

Poor girl, I am so sorry.
Did you ask about this on Yahoo! Questions? I saw an identical post recently. Of course I didn't respond because I have no experience with this.
I'm so sorry

Thank you everyone for your understanding. Most people I know just dont understand feeling such loss over 'just a bird.' It's always a good feeling to come here with those who understand.
No, this is the only board I've posted on. Maybe I'll do a search and try to find the post you saw. Who knows, maybe I can help somehow.
Thanks again.

It's okay!
I've lost 3 birds in the past year...over 'just a bird.'
(Worst Year Ever...)
And none of them were just a bird.
I was devastated each time...
As time passes it does get easier, trust me.
Time is the best cure.
