Exclamation Is this normal lovebird behavior for a almost 5 month old/

I am a little concerned with my lovebird. She has been doing a lot of sleeping today than what I am use to with her even though I have only had her a week and that is what I am going based on. She still had her moment of talking today, playing with toys and eating she just seemed a little bit more reservad today. Is this normal lovebird behavior for a baby?

I would suggest just keep an eye on her. Make sure you see her eating and drinking water. If she does not, there could be a problem and she would need avian vet attention. And check her poops. Are they normal looking?

Well, have any of your lovebirds ever have this kind of behavior?

@ Fruit Basket, Yeah she is really good at eating and she drank her water today and even bathed. Her bm's are normal its just today she did some "peeing" as I call it, look like she was peeing but not. Is that normal?

Well considering you only had her a week. The stress of moving into a new home could be taking a toll on her body. So that is probly what it is.

I would highly suggest taking her to a qualified Avian Vet to get her initial checkups. It is always good to get a health evaluation whenever you get a new bird. (weather they appear healthy or not)

Boomer has some days he just wants to sleep or if he has a really busy day the day before he will be a lazy butt the next day. If your lovie took a bath thats a good sign, sick birds dont usually take bathes, Keep a eye on her and if shes eating and pooping good she probably OK. Just keep a close eye on her and if you still think something is wrong tomorrow I would take her to a avain vet just to make sure she is OK.

I agrre with Fruitbasket, when ever you get a new bird take the to the vet to see if there's any potential problems. And if she gets a clean bill it could be stress from the move or ,like others said, a sleepy. We all get 'em!

yea yea yea i have to chime in and put my 2 cents in too

I agree you need to get you bird looked at by a vet, for a general health check.

You say you have only had her a week. Give her time to settle in and get ajusted. I have heard that some birds it can take up to a month or more for them fully ajust. I would not worry about it to much. but as alwasy keep an eye out for more sighens that could indicated illness. I would also start finding a vet and get an apointment.

Thanks you guys for all your great info. Hanna is very much acting normal today! Verrry talkative today, played with her toys, all normal signs. I took into consideration that she is only a baby and she might just be a little tired from all that has gone on for her this past week. And I am looking into finding her an Avian vet, not until it was pointed out; I didn't realize she didn't have one. So, agian thanks.

Here's a link to help you find a board-certified avian veterinarian (Dipl. ABVP): http://www.abvp.com/FindDiplomate.aspx

If that doesn't help, try the Association of Avian Veterinarians: http://www.aav.org/vet-lookup/

Chances are that she's just settling in to her new home and new routine. Regardless, seeing a vet is a good idea
