    Large bird toys

I've been looking through a lot of these posts and I've noticed that they are mostly for smaller birds.
I was hoping that someone that's made some large bird toys can post pictures.
I have gotten a few ideas from looking on here, but I just need a few more. Thanks!!

    Re: Large bird toys

post up an unpainted door faceing in all seriousness, my macaw loves to chew on door faceings. But once he has destroyed them i take them down and replace them with new ones. the salvageable wood cut up in to blocks, drill holes in them and string them together Some time i get ambishious and turn a few blocks in to swiss cheese and then hide treats in them. Jacks toys never realy last that long he either destroys them or does not touch them. if they last a week and are not destroyed i take them apart and re do them.

Sorry i dont have picts of his toys i cant take the camera out when he is around or he destroys it.

    Re: Large bird toys

I completely understand the need for them to have to chew things up... funny though, LT (my military) is VERY picky about her toys. I'm having a hard time getting stuff for her to play with, that she actually plays with!

Last year I moved into a studio apartment and I didn't have her with me. My mom's boyfriend was keeping her for me for that time. One day she was playing with some of her toys and one with a block hit her eye and cut it... he then threw away all her toys because he was worried she'd hurt herself. So I'm having to replace ALL her toys now that I have her back. (I have a bigger place now, thank goodness!!)

It's not cheap... my poor baby has been so bored. I've been buying toys left and right. My bank account isn't liking me much, and LT doesn't play with all the toys I buy. So I'm going to try to make some.

This is my first home made toy, and she spent about an hour "preening" it.

Ok that was all very random.

I use this website for inspiration (for my tiel, but same concept):
    http://www.tntbirdtoys.com/large.htm

Most of their toys are made out of stuff you can buy at like cabirdnerds.com or craft stores.

    Re: Large bird toys

i buy the roll of bamboo shredder stuff wrap toby's favorite snack in a couple layers so he cant get at it easily and then hang it from the top of the cage with twine though toby is clearly not a large bird perhaps you could do the same with something else... like card board or something. the other thing you can do is take long pieces of string and put a bucket or basket with toys or treats in it and make it difficult for him to get to it... like hang it outside the cage or something its like a treat elevator. if you google hand made toy ideas there are endless sites to get insperation from.

    Re: Large bird toys

The toy in the middle is made of straws and it is pretty large. I dunno If you could use something like that or not??? The bag of straws was like 80 cents plus the cost of string and the bell, hope this helps!

Just use the directions for the smaller toys and make them bigger haha. USe bigger or more beads and double the lenth of the string.

    Re: Large bird toys

If LT is a big chewer, you can get untreated pine blocks and drill holes in them. Then string some chain through it. Voila! A nice chewing toy! My U2 Sydney goes through a bunch of these kinds of toys.

    Re: Large bird toys

take some kind of food box (ritz crackers, yoplait yogurt box, wheat thins, ect), stuff it with shredded paper, put a few holes in it, put fruity pellets in the holes, and throughout the shreddy paper, and then hang in the cage... right now my sennie is obsessed with destroying these... also,, it's free!!!
