Does it take awhile for a new Cockatiel to talk?
My Cockatiel has been in my house for almost 2 weeks. It will be 2 weeks this Friday. I was just wondering if it takes some time for him to get used to his new home before he starts making sounds?

Is it a boy or a girl? How old is it?

It's a boy and I would say under 1 year ... not sure exactly on the age.

My female wasn't vocal at all until she got really comfortable with me. My male whistled on the very first day and started learning his first song. I think it all depends on the bird. You may have a male that doesn't have much intrest in singing but then you get a female who wont be quiet. Good luck.

He's still pretty young. Milo didn't start really whistling & picking up tunes until he was about 4-5 months old. At about 6-7months he started picking up words.
Is he making any noise at all? Any squeaks?

Great, I am happy to know this. I was getting kinda worried thinking something might be wrong. I'm glad to know it's because he is still young.

I have to be the one to burst your bubble, Not all males talk. 3 of mine do and 1 doesnt. He whistles his own tune nothing we taught him nor does he even wolf whistle while all the other ones are talking about 10 words and he just doesnt care. He is usually very quiet unless he feels threatened or wants a piece or 'tail'. lol.
All mine were talking by 12 weeks.
Being the only bird and I am sure you are around often he has no need to whistle and call you, until you are out of sight.
"I will lend to you, a Bird", God said, "and teach you all you have to do. And when I call him back to heaven, you will know he loved you too."

He's just a baby, so you'll hear a lot more noise from him later. He'll start trying on new sounds, and some male tiels are hilarious when they really get into singing.
He may or may not talk. Some birds do, and some do not. None of my tiels have, but others have had ones that were very enthusiastic about their few words. It just depends.
