I lost my male Cocky tonight
I've had Rocky for over 10 years. I recently got a new weinie dog and he got ahold of Rocky and killed him tonight.
Rocky was a loved family member and it's too quiet here now without his cheery little voice.

Oh, I'm so sorry.

Re: I lost my male Cocky tonight
I am so sorry to hear that. I am going through very much the same thing right now. Last week i lost my best friend Max to my parents' cat. I thought i would lose it, but i am still here. I deeply sympathize with you.
And i know what you mean about he silence. It is very sad and lonely, but just know that Rocky is happy now and at peace. I'll pray for you both.
Best wishes

I am very sorry for your loss. I once lost a cockatiel to a dog, too. It was terrible and I never fully got over it. It was by far the worst thing that has ever happened to me.
A sidenote, btw. I'll say it, since people rarely do: It's OK to dislike the new dog after it has killed your longtime friend. Our dog was new--an italian greyhound from a rescue. I returned her to the rescue organization from which I'd adopted her. I blame myself more than her, but I still couldn't sit around pretending to feel deep affection for her for 10 years.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that maybe yours and similar stories will alert people to just how dangerous it can be to have cats and dogs around birds.
Fly free Rocky.
Hugs.

Re: I lost my male Cocky tonight
Firstly I'm so sorry to hear about your tiel. I can't imagine how you feel about losing your companion of 10 years. It must be hard breaking. Secondly, get rid of the dog, that's just my personal opinion. It will remind you of what happened to your bird every time you look at it. If you do keep it, you must move it outside your house if you have other birds. Regardless of how friendly cats and dogs are, they still have a predatory instinct. They will always attack birds especially if they are competing with them for your affection. I am very sorry about loss, I really am.

Thank you everyone.
It's so hard to see his cage now.
And the house is so quiet without him making all his calls and talking.

Re: I lost my male Cocky tonight
I am so sorry for your loss. These kind of accidents are so unfortunate and sudden! While having dogs and birds together is entirely possible, it takes very careful planning, and even then, accidents can happen.
However, it certainly isn't fair to dump or resent a living, breathing animal for being a living breathing animal. Your dog didn't do anything wrong, and certainly didn't mean to hurt you. If you can't control the dog around your birds, perhaps it would be best to find a home that can accommodate a dog.
For those of you who suggest dumping animals that act like animals, would you do the same thing if, for example, a larger parrot killed a smaller parrot, or killed it's mate?
