    first eggs of the year

    well my beautiful female Irian Jaya carpet python decided to lay for me the other day...and what a clutch! we can count 25 odd! which is a huge clutch for an IJ they are due to hatch around the 8th of may...and i cant wait .....

    Moved. You have to admit though: Having snakes in the "bird toys" thread was pretty funny! A little part of me wanted to leave it there for lolz.

    lol thanks...and yeah not really the kind of toy you would want in your birds cage really eh? and yeah she certainly did herself proud!!

    Cool! I love snakes! (just don't like that you have to feed them poor little mice & rats)...

    beautiful python and congrats on the eggs
    i would have a snake(probably something ike cornsnake) but my parents wont allow it

    Very beautiful snake!!! Those eggs look so...mushy, are they? Is that little off colored egg in the top corner going to hatch? I can't wait for pics of the babies!!

    reptiles are my passion! and the feeding is no problem...mine all feed on frozen rats/mice so just whip them out the freezer and defrost them...job done

    thanks..and they are kind of a hard leathery texture, not hard and brittle like birds eggs, the one you mentioned may not prove to be fertile...but i give them all a chance as i have seen babies come out of the deadest looking eggs you can imagine!

    yeah pythons are one of my favourite famalies of snakes! along with Pituophis (bull, pine and gopher snakes)

    Thats so cool. I just can't imagine little baby snakes in eggs... Do the eggs have blood vesels, yolks and air sacks like bird eggs?

    they do have vessels and yolk sacks just the same as birds eggs, and oxygen is absorbed through the shells as in birds too...
