    New Lovie Problems

Okay, so I have my new little guy Spike (and I love him to death!) but I am having some problems. I got him from a bird expo, so hes not very tame; which is fine, I can tame him. The problem is: I hate to leave him in his cage all day, but I can't get him out by himself without chasing him (and btw he is in a really big cage) and I don't want him scared of my hands. So what I do is open the door and let him come out himself. The problem is getting him back inside the cage; I still have to chase him down messing up my whole "don't scare him with my hands" idea. Should I let him out and continue to chase him, or leave him in his cage while he is in training? Like I said the cage is huge. Thank you for your replies.

Thank yall, he is beautiful. The pictures of your birds are beautiful as well! My camrea is awol, so I have had to resort to my cell phone's pictures, but I'll get some bigger pics up soon. I've had him for about 3 weeks. I haven't made a lot of progress taming him yet because I've just finished getting my cockatiel (Jackson) tame, so now I can be more focused on my little ball of energy. He loves millet and kale, so I've been working with that. He will take millet from my and but not the kale. I am still at the "sit by the cage and just talk to him" stage, and we've made a bit of progress; he doesn't run from me when I walk past the playgym anymore

Oh, and yes, his wings are clipped. (not that it helps much, his wings have been cut back as far as they can go and he still gets around much better than Jackson!)

Do you have a small room without anything high to perch on? It find it easier to get them back in the cage without as much chasing if you take them in a room like that. Also you might want to take a spray bottle and soak him or dunk him in a sink, he might not like it at first (he might though!) but any bird can use a bath, and he will not be able to fly at all when his whole wings are wet. When I give my birds a bath I always have a big snuggle with them when they dry off, even my evil girl Sobe(usually cannot touch her without getting a bleeding hand) will snuggle with me and except scritches.

Yup, the biggest thing with taming any bird is patience!

Thanks. I do sit on the floor with him, but he still runs from me on the floor, he'll get better eventually. I will have to try that water suggestion..... maybe that will work with Spike!
