    Question Genetic Calculator for Lovebirds

    The one I normally use is simple and easy to use, but doesn't have Edged Dilute on it (unless it's called something else on that one and I just don't know it)

    So i've been using this one
    http://www.gencalc.com/gen/eng_genc.php?sp=0LBpeach

    I understand it when I use it on the budgies But the lovebirds - not so much

    What do i choose for Dutch blue?

    I wanted to see what I'd get from a Female Edged Dilute and a Male Dutch Blue Pied...... I put Dark and Blue( i used par blue wasn't sure which one to use) and Dom. Pied for the male and the Edged Dilute for the female

    and got a whole bunch of greens, is that right? or am i just not understanding how this one works

    So if some one has the time to explain how to use this one for love birds I'd appreciate it (and can do it in simple terms

    Re: Genetic Calculator for Lovebirds

    Hi,

    Aqua = dutch blue
    Turquoise = white face blue
    AquaTurquoise = seagreen
    (on the calculator for AquaTurquoise, put visual Aqua and split Turquoise)

    Cinnamon = american cinnamon
    Pallid = australian cinnamon

    1.0 = cock
    0.1 = hen

    Green is automatically selected, so if the bird is a normal wildcolour green, you dont select anything at all. If you only select edged dilute, it's a green edged dilute.

    Dutch blue pied x edged dilute =

    Aqua dominant pied x edged dilute=
    50.0% green dominant pied /aqua edged dilute
    50.0% green /aqua edged dilute

    You will only get greens unless the edged dilute hen is split aqua or turquoise.

    wf blue american cinnamon violet you would tick the following boxes...

    turquoiuse
    violet (sf) ... if it's single factor violet. (df) if it's double.
    cinnamon

    If you don't tick the turquoise, your telling the calculator it's a green cinnamon violet.

    (sf) = single factor
    (df) = doubole factor

    International terms are not used in the US, so it gets a bit confusing. You dont just have to learn the mutations, you have to learn the multiple names for them. lol.

    Re: Genetic Calculator for Lovebirds

    Hi,
    I just had a baby lovebird from a female Opaline and a male Slate. My baby has red eyes. I know there are Lutino and pieds as a possible grandparent (female Opaline’s parent). Not sure about the Slate side of genetics. How did I get a red eyed baby? In the genetics calculator I clicked Opaline for the 0.1 (hen) and Aqua for the 1.0 (cock). I didn’t really understand what I got. It said green/aqua for 0.1 and germ/aqua & Opaline for 1.0. Would love to hear an experts ideas!
