Well how'd this happen!? Mutation Question
Ok Keep in mind, The pictures are not showing the colors I see in person BUT my description is the exact way I see it in person! (just wanted to get that out of the way)
Ok I took 2 of my babies from Last year's Clutches (from 2 different clutch) and they were bred this year.
Male is Double Factor Violet - His parents were BOTH yellow Face Violets
Female is - Yellow Face Violet Opaline, Her Parents were Male sky blue split to cinnamon and Opaline, Female Violet
Ok so putting 2 violets together - Your going to get All violets some Single Factors, Some Double Factors , one having a yellow face, you get some with yellow faces - This is what i was expecting!
What I was NOT expecting is what I seen today when taking their updated pictures
3rd baby has a grey (and It is Grey as grey can be) Rump with a Light Violet Stomach
4th baby has a very bright Teal (it doesn't even match the Sky blue it's more Teal ) Rump and a Violet Belly
a few of the babies have a couple white feathers on the back of their heads (Everything I have ever read and been told says this means they are SPLIT TO RECESSIVE PIED) - NEITHER Grandparents are split to recessive pied that I know of none of their babies ever had the "pied thumb print" and no pied markings at all
So here are the pics of all the babies
Baby 1 - 33 days old - Yellow face Violet - my camera washes out the yellow face but it's there just very light yellow

Baby 2- 31 days old - Normal Violet

Baby 3 - 27 days old - Grey Rump

Best shot of his belly i was able to get

Baby 4- 25 days old - Teal (sky blue?) Rump

Another Rump shot (and you can see the single white feather on the back of it's head)

I couldn't get a good shot of his/her belly though
Baby 5- 23 days old - Looks like it's going to be Violet from the little feathers on it's tail -but the Jade green looking color in the wings is throwing me off

and a Small family shot - They're getting to the age of not wanting to hold still for good pictures any more
Bottom is Baby 3, then Baby 4 then baby 5

Unfortunately I do not know if the Grandfather (dads dad) was split to anything, he died during the 2nd clutch and those were all infertile, and the only baby that pair had was the dad of these babies.
so any one know how I'm getting a Baby with a Grey Rump, and a Violet belly and one with a Teal(sky blue) rump and a violet belly and how come they're split to recessive pied if none of the grandparents other babies have been (The grandmother - Dads mom- has had other babies with a different male and none have had the split to recessive pied marking) the mom's parents have had 2 clutches together ALL were yellow face violets, some cinnamon, some opaline, some normal some both cinnamon and opaline. NO pied marking on the back of the head, Her dad has been paired with another female and again NO pied markings on any of them.
Using the Genetic calculator for budgies (assuming i'm using the right one for yellow face) this is what I should of gotten
% from all 1.0
50.0% 1.0 bl.yellowfaceBlue violet(df) /opaline
50.0% 1.0 bl.yellowfaceBlue violet(sf) /opaline
% from all 0.1
50.0% 0.1 bl.yellowfaceBlue violet(df)
50.0% 0.1 bl.yellowfaceBlue violet(sf)
And if i use the bl.goldenfaceBlue - i get the same out come only the "bl.yellowfaceBlue" is replaced with the "bl.goldenfaceBlue"

That is a beautiful green/blue in his feathers.
Imagine yourself through their eyes.

Re: Well how'd this happen!? Mutation Question
Looks like you've got a:
Cobalt Yellowface Double Factor Violet
Cobalt DF Violet Normal
Mauve Normal
Cobalt Single Factor Violet. Perhaps the white feather is just a place where the down is showing through, he'll be spli for Rec. Pied if it stays there.
Maybe a Yellowface Violet (too young to tell whether df or sf) the colour through the wings is normal.
Also, on an interesting note, if I had to guess, I'd say the first is a male, the mauve a female, and the other two are males. Can't tell what the normal violet (second pic) is, I can't see its cere.

I agree with Jen144, baby 3 definitely looks like a mauve. You should definitely breed him when he's old enough. You can get some very interesting colours from a mauve. I had a Yellowface spangle Mauve once, but sadly was attacked by another female at 4 weeks old.

Re: Well how'd this happen!? Mutation Question
Thank you I'll get updated pics posted tomorrow since they're all a month old now and in a cage of their own, eating on their own (they're with my other babies born the same time they were) and they're some characters
oh and just the 1 has a yellow face
and how did I get Mauve out of a Double Factor Violet and a YFSingle Factor Violet Opaline?
the mutation chart didn't get these guys right according to it all of them was supposed to be yellow face, the only thing it got right is that some are SF and some are DF but all were supposed to be yellow face violets
