Fly my little pretties, FLY!

Plays well with others??????????
Im adopting a lovebird soon and Ive never had one before. I am just wondering, After the quarantine...is it safe to put it in my big big big cage with a Tiel? I have 2 Mondo cages, one has two tiels one had only one tiel and then I have a smaller cage for the budgie. If its Possible Id like to condense, but I want to be sure.

Re: Plays well with others??????????
While it's fine for them to have supervised play times out of the cages together if they get on, it's always best never to mix different types of birds in a cage.
Being confined to a space is different to being out of the cage and brings out territorial issues and such. Lovebirds are relatively aggressive birds and could easily kill a tiel.
It could be possible to house them together, once you've had the lovebird for a few months after the quarantine and know it's character better (as well as how it gets on with the tiel you want to house it with) if the cage is like a small aviary and you think it'd be safe you could try it. Make sure you're free for quite a while after introducing them so you can keep an eye on things and intervene if any trouble starts.

Re: thanks
while I don't like to contridict Ratty, I wouldn't house those together even after quarantine and even if they get along fine, the reason being that lovies and tiels need a slightly different diet (lovebirds need much more fat in their diet than tiels do). You would not be able to provie each bird with their individual nutritional needs if they are caged together and have full access to each-other's food dishes.
