could ya also maybe add some dried fruits to make it healthier
Here's a treat for budgies, homemade, that's safe and enjoyable!
It's from ABC, and they have other things, like how to make a seed bell with a terracotta pot!
baking tray; baking paper; birdseed; egg whites; mixing bowl; oven
What to do:
1. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. In a small mixing bowl, get two egg whites and whisk them lightly.
3. Mix your whisked egg whites in with two cups of birdseed. The ratio you need is one egg white per cup of birdseed so adjust the amounts depending on how much you want to make.
4. Pour your seed and egg white mixture into your lined baking tray and press down flat.
5. Put in the oven at 100° for an hour (or less if, like me, you have a dodgy oven).
6. Once cooked and allowed to cool, you can either cut your seed mixture into nicely lined, even bar shapes or, for the more avant-garde bird, you can simply break bits off and feed them to your budgie.
If you're feeling slightly more adventurous, the ABC website has a great idea for making a birdseed bell using a terracotta pot.

Life without birds, is not a life I could live
Nice and simple! I might try adding some veggies too, my lovebird is really picky on what he eats.
Thanks![]()

No Prob!
My budgie (yes i know-Budgie!) is very picky about his food too. I moved him onto whistler seed and pellet diet and herbs, but we'll see what he does, lol. I'm gonna give him that treat thing, as he's been a really good boy lately.![]()

maybe i am confused. will this make into an avi-cake kinda thing. if it is would the veggies could they still hold together? i said dried fruits since i know they would be fine in bar form. and it is very hard to find dried veggies. so i think i am confused

I made a similar thing with small bits of brocolli and it was fine. I suppose you'd have to experiment and see what works and what doesn't. You can get dried vegetables, but it can be hard to find sometimes. I know I've seen some online, or you can dehydrate things yourself. This is my recipe, but I'm afraid I didn't measure anything.
You can cut it into sticks/funny shapes I think, but I'm not sure. Or if you have a really tame bird, simply break of chunks and feed it to the bird that way.
BTW, I'm pretty sure you can do this with bigger seeds for bigger birds!!!
Great recipe. I make something similiar and I use popsicle sticks to coat with the seed/egg white mixture. I attach them to their millet holder and my fids go nuts trying to get everything off, then they chew the stick. Makes for a nice treat and toy. I also use dried herbs that I mix in with the seeds. Never thought about dried fruit, but might try that next time and maybe some blender veggies....
