Male nesting female only goes in at night.

Well my Cinnamon / Pearl tiels are at it again. They don't bother mating. They go straight for laying eggs and nesting. This is the 2nd time. I haven't candled the eggs yet but I'm not hopeful. Now its the other way around the female only goes in the evenings and comes out in the morning and the male incubates the rest of the time. I just can't understand why they don't mate. Could the male possibly be another female, but it can't be right? He taps on the box, sings when he is in the breeding box with the pearl female while tapping the box. I see them preen each other. Lifts his wings up in a heart shape while singing. He follows her everywhere like a stalker and he fights with the other male that i have. So he must be a male yeah? The closest I saw them come to mate was when the pearl girl went up to him and I think he tried to get on top but fell off instantly.

The most frustrating thing is that the whiteface pair that I have are mating all the time, have been fixing the nest box for a month but won't lay eggs!

Are his nails clipped? Sometimes if they have sharp nails, the female won't allow them to stay on top...

Yeah his nails are a bit sharp come to think of it. He hates me for a good 2 weeks if I clip them or clip his wings. I will clip them once he finishes nesting. I only have 2 pairs they are both bonded but just don't want to breed!
