    moustached parakeet

so before anyone jumps all over me. this is not set in stone. i was offered a young one that wil be ready in two weeks. i am still up in the air buti am not looking for answers about whether i should do it or not.
what i am really wondering is what do ya all think of them. they are one of the birds i have not really worked with since they are not that common. i love ringnecks and my ex had an alexandrine that i loved. and these guys are supposed to have the best personality out of the asiatic parakeets. so help me

I think your signature is out of room, lol.

Honestly, I think they are gorgeous birds but they are certainly not one I'd choose. I love them from afar. I've had the pleasure of meeting one not too long ago and he was insanely loud. I mean, INSANELY. And he was a well cared for, happy bird. He was just loud. The woman that owned him said he has always been that way and probably always will. He was not the friendliest bird with anyone other than his mom but he wasn't aggressive unless you tried to touch him while he was on mom. If she handed him to you, he wouldn't bite but he wasn't happy about it, either.

I think they are stunningly gorgeous birds, but their personality is one that I likely wouldn't choose. however, you and I are really different it seems, since you're a conure person and I dont' think I would be lol, so who knows? Just do your research and you'll figure it out.

Talk to Kerry, she has 1 or 2 as pets, and can probably give you better information and insight on them.

    Re: moustached parakeet

well i have talked to breeder friends that have worked with them and know others that have worked with them and they say they are pretty neat birds. i looked online but it all says the normal stuff. i cannot find a psitticula club to get info there. i guess we shall see. i know people that love the derbyans and these are supposed to be pretty similar as far personality. though why why should i be picky about that now. after all i have a quaker, green cheek and lovies. i love birds with attitude

LOL, nope. Not yet. My MIL is in town for a week so I'm not even going to bother looking or talking to my vet right now. Ask me again next week.

    Re: moustached parakeet

after talking to kerryc on the phone this evening i think i am gonna pass. she loves them but was able to give me the negatives i needed to know and could not find anywhere. they make good pets if the handfeeder does a great job. and since the bird will be weaned by the time the breeder gets back i will miss out on the handfeeding. which i prefer to do myself. since i always have the best results with that. they are not the most forgiving bird and the males are much better than the females. and i do not want to sex all the babies for her to get a male. so everything is back in limbo. i may get a bird and i may not. i may decide i want the moustached after all. or i may go with one of the conures a breeder has. who knows
